Not so ‘Free Republic’: The Shot Heard Around the Net
The Conservative Voice ^ | Feb 11, 2005 | by William Gheen, President, Americans for Legal Immigration PAC

Posted on 02/11/2005 10:55:36 AM PST by Jim Robinson

The shot heard around the Internet has been fired on FreeRepublic.com The owner Jim Robinson and his moderators have launched a sniper style purge against members that disagree with the President’s ‘guest worker’ amnesty or support more control of illegal immigration. Free Republic is an amazing tool for those looking for a good debate and news from around the country.

The problem for the administration of the site is that their creation is allowing the participants to learn that the Bush immigration record and plans are shockingly out of line with the views of most conservatives. The management’s answer to this conflict between the majority of conservatives and the influence of the White House on their Web site has become electronic executions and censorship.

Members and readers of Free Republic would be surprised to know that many members of their community have fallen silent on the discussions about illegal immigration lately because free speech is an illusion on FR.com. They are silent because they have been banned from the Web site without warning, cause, or explanation in most cases. For weeks the moderators have been suspending and banning new members that chimed in quickly on the immigration debates.

Now this trend has broadened as the first groups of long-term users were suspended or banned this past week. Although Robinson and his staff removed many members of the Free Republic community in the first few days of the purge, those that religiously support President Bush’s immigration plan, open borders and approve of public benefits for illegal aliens remain on the forum. Those that were banned were the members that wanted more done to control illegal immigration and a strict observance to the President’s Oath of Office.

>The Israeli fence is 72 miles and American equivalent would be 5,000 miles(3,000 mile American/Canadian border, 2,000 miles American/Mexican border).<

We could use the $1700 per year per illegal the problem costs us now to build the fence & save our kids the expense. Cool.

Oh, Please. In 30 odd years of trying, the East Germans and Russians never managed to seal Berlin with a wall. You expect to seal 2000 miles with a Wall!?! That's never gonna happen. Period. Please, just think about it for a minute.

The Only way we're going to get a handle on this is enforce the laws against hiring illegal aliens

I understand. But familial relationships must be maintained (my one sister is a lib too, but since we love each other, we don't talk politics......decided that during the Reagan years!).

I guess I just wouldn't bother to maintain an Internet relationship with someone so far out.

If you can do it, more power to you, Patty!

There are millions of illegal immigrants on welfare, in schools and many tens of thousands sitting in prisons. This isn't exactly adding to the well-being of the nation.

No one is threatening your culture (except the ones taking religion out of the public, but you can't blame Hispanics), crime is decreasing, our foreign policy and military are astoundingly successful, we have the world's best health care, I'm getting lots of sex, taxes have been cut,...

Everything has been fine - ergo, everything will be fine.

We are, therefore, don't think. Hows that for an argument?

I stand corrected about JoeHadenuf's banning. The thread in question was pulled Thursday night, Feb. 3rd, not Friday night. I was off by one night.

JackelopeBreeder could verify this but he too has been banned.

"F16 feels free to make accusations.

I just want him to back them up with facts."

Perhaps YOU -- as part of the busy-body 'Road-Kill' cabal -- can also provide evidence of the so-called "accusation."

Ping me when you find your Fresh Meat.

Let's go over a few figures.

"The total number of people officially considered unemployed rose by 27,000 during December (2004) to 8,047,000. Those considered long-term unemployed—out of work and seeking a job for at least six months—dipped slightly in December to 1.6 million (20.2% of total unemployed)." -- Bureau of Labor Statistics

We have roughly six and a half million people moving from one job to the next during the month of December, and 1.6 million who have been looking for work for more six months or longer; we have somewhere between eight and ten million illegal aliens in the U.S. doing some kind of low-end jobs.

We abort one million babies per year, and the baby boom generation is standing on the threshold of retirement. Right now, we don't have enough workers to cover the Social Security bill from the boomers, and the retiree to worker ratio is about to drop to a critical level.

What happens to the U.S. economy if we remove from it more workers than it requires to function?

because the Democrats are determined to make this a racial issue.

Yet --- what could be more racist than an amnesty program for just the citizens of only one foreign country. If you're a particular "race" you get put on the fast track to citizenship and crimes like felonly document fraud are overlooked --- yet someone of the wrong race, from the wrong country who has always shown respect for our laws gets punished and is not given anything. In fact the law breakers from one particular "race" or country will be the only ones allowed in on this amnesty.

There is a small contingent of posters that show up on most immigration threads and attempt to disrupt them.

If you are against Bush's plan to pardon illegal aliens and grant them visas or just plain against illegal aliens, most will call you a racist, a xenophobe or a Bush hater. I their eyes; Bush is great and can do no wrong. Any plan other then Bush’s is evil and bad.

And what ever you do, don’t say you agree with anything from Tancredo or Buchanan.

Just check out some of the immigration threads and you'll be able to see who they are. Some have already posted on this thread and some will most likely attack me for telling you this.

Just sit back and observe.

Give up what? America has never been better in every respect (well maybe not the abortion respect, but you can't blame Hispanics)).

No one is threatening your culture (except the ones taking religion out of the public, but you can't blame Hispanics)

What a totally sleazy and underhanded response to my post. I see you are already trying to imply that my opposition to illegal immigration is simply me being "anti-Hispanic". I never said anywhere that I had a problem with Hispanics, and people like you who frame the argument in those terms do a huge disservice to this forum.

If you want to give up, go ahead. Send us a postcard from Paris.

You may have misunderstood what I was saying. I never said I was giving up.

I made the mistake of calling them once during Stargate and was curtly informed of the current TV viewing situtation. LOL.

Since the French bought the series it's been a hard slog between good episodes.

Tonight was good, because Richard Dean Anderson was in a lot of it, and the gang was back together some of the time.

Like most successful series the key is the 'family' interaction of the ensemble cast working together to solve challenges. The trouble is the French can't afford to pay them all to be there at the same time (especially Anderson) and it's a rare episode now where they are all together. Yet it is Anderson's wry humor and skepticism in dealing with enemies (illegal alien parasites) is what holds the gang together.

Now everyone can go back to arguing about how to handle illegal aliens in this dimension.

Thanks for proving what an empty suit you are.

No facts. Just bluster.

Make up charges, then accuse the ones who ask you to back them up.

No honor.

Can you say the same?

I've been here since 1998; I've had two suspensions and I'm sure posts pulled, but I can't remember what.

its to bad JackelopeBreeder has been banned, too. He was also involved.

Not with me; I've never spoken to him.

I never said you got JoeHadenuf banned.

Then what was the purpose of THIS post?

To: cyborg; Howlin
joehadenuf probably went over the deep end

I was there on Joe's last thread a week ago. Howlin pulled the race card and some of us objected. Joe's says he called her a leftist and then the thread got pulled and Joe got banned.

No, and that will be addressed by two things.

1. The legalization of current workers and the demise of the millions of non contributing underground businesses will pay the freight for those social services currently going to non contributors.

2. The screening process will catch former criminals and current ones still at large and deport them. That should also help some.

As to what it does not, people commit crimes, at least they will be 100% subject to our legal system which will have more resources for the reasons stated above.

You can, but you'll be labeled a racist xenophobe.

The race card is used by those who are the least likely of anyone to want the amnesty or "guest worker" program opened up to people of all races. If we needed guest workers (doubtful) then we can need people from many foreign countries, people of many races ---- but this proposed plan is limited to only one "race" --- and the open borders types have no problem with that kind of racism. If we need tons of cheap workers who have no health insurance nor education --- we can find workers cheaper than Mexicans. A Mexican might gladly work for $3 an hour --- but very likely there are other people who would work for $0.50 an hour.
