Marijuana Lobby Grows in Sophistication (After you smoke a joint, I do Too!)

WASHINGTON — Pot. Cannabis. Hemp. Weed. Grass.

The herb takes many names. But in the nation’s capital, where the marijuana lobby (search) was once the recreational diversion of Playboy Magazine's Hugh Hefner, pro-pot special interest groups have crystallized the divergent issues behind the plant and gained a seemingly unified voice.

________________ Puff, Cough, Puff, Cough________________

"It’s a no-brainer. It makes no sense putting old and sick folks in jail for an herb that makes them feel better," said Bruce Mirken, spokesman for the Marijuana Policy Project (search), which was established in 1995 by Rob Kampia, a former mainstay at the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, the first pro-pot lobby in Washington, D.C.

When you consider all the prescriptions for drugs people take for just that reason, you'd be hard pressed to find a logical argument against your proposition.

Plenty of over-the-counter stuff in that category too.

I have seen more people flip out drinking Tequilla and Gin than I ever have seen people that smoke Pot.

I expect people would want credible procedures in place to prevent the crop from being pilfered by underaged "smokers".

Fences.

As long as we tolerate legal alcohol, anti-marijuana policy is pure hypocrisy.

In your mind

1964-68 I lived with a sister attending Bizerkly. Also had another sister in the dorms. One was a psyche major. The other never picked a major and transferred to Ohio State. I ran away from home and stayed with sister for four months. Went to plenty of parties on campus. I have seen the piles of the crap and can testify that there was plenty. Received shipments in letters from my sisters, and I also sold the stuff for a buck a pop in the late 60's. Bought some at a ren faire in 1970-71 for 10 hits, $5. Windowpane. I don't know who YOUR connection was, but I sure wish I knew you then. I could have retired.

"So you contend that the words "The Powers" mean only some powers but not all powers?"

In your post #187, you said the 10th amendmrent was specific. I said it wasn't.

If your proof are the words, "The Powers", I rest my case.

I have seen more people flip out drinking Tequilla and Gin than I ever have seen people that smoke Pot.

I've seen lots of fights started by drunks that never would've happened if they were sober. I've never seen anyone on pot start a fight that wouldn't have happened if they were sober. I've seen a lot of people on pot opt not to fight when they would've gone ballistic when sober.

The only flipping out on pot I've ever seen has been fits of hysterical laughter or anxiety over being caught and only in first time smokers and those largely giddy teens to begin with.

Who believes that someone was giving away IN BARRELS something costing 10-25 dollars per dose in the sixties.

Garbage. I graduated HS in '73. Acid was sold by the 100 lot for 25-50 cents per tab. It was then resold for $1.50 - $3.00. That was up considerably from the day I started HS in '70.

Exactly!
But they would rather put the millions of people that need some kind of Anti-Depressant Medication, PRozac, Zoloft, and all the other ones that have grave side effects instead of letting many of these people smoke Pot which would mellow them out and calm them down.

That's it. Put a sock in it right now. I never said one way or the other on the use of drugs. And I won't. And it's none of your friggin' business one way or the other. I've told you that repeatedly.

If you continue to say that I've used drugs, I will hit the abuse button.

Stop it. Now.

No, but they decide if those rights should be protected, and by who.

I expect people would want credible procedures in place to prevent the crop from being pilfered by underaged "smokers".

Until 1938 it was common for young people across America to smoke hemp. It was known as the smoke of kids and old wimmen'. Many of the men who fought in WWII grew up "smokin' rope" behind the barn. When marijuana was propagandized into the "Demon Weed", the American public did not know marijuana was just another name for hemp or cannabis. The public was led to believe that marijuana was a narcotic produced only in Mexico. Much of the early propaganda shows marijuana along with hypodermic syringes.

Marijuana was not a problem before 1938, and it is not a problem today. The simple fact is that young people choose beer over marijuana and always have. That's just as true in Holland where marijuana is legal, as it is here in America where it is not.

No company will pay the half million dollar price tag for FDA approval for a plant you can grow in your garden. No profit on a plant you can't patent.

Drugs ain't one of them.

Marijuana ain't a drug, it's a plant. Just a plant.

Tobacco ain't a drug, it's a plant. Just a plant.

Get it?
