President Bush cannot push his guest-worker program for illegal immigrants and new foreign workers and still win reforms to Social Security or the tax code, congressional opponents said yesterday.
"There are a lot of ambitious plans, a lot of necessary reforms that need to take place, but this rush toward amnesty-light should not be one of the priorities," said Rep. J.D. Hayworth, Arizona Republican, who called himself a friend and political ally of the president, but said Mr. Bush's immigration proposal would hurt his broader legislative agenda.

Now it's 30 million illegals.
This is becoming a million man math auction. 30 million folks. Do I hear 35 million? 30 million going once, going twice...
America is an occupied country, huh? Take a pill. The absurdity is breathtaking.
Well said.
W has really 'lost it', which makes me very sad. But I won't give up without a fight!
Can you provide any evidence there are eight million?
And by the way, I'll decline your job offer because I'm not interested in being pushed off a roof by one of your 3000 desperate and lawless employees.
Uh, do you think it might have something to do with some of his big campaign contributors. Somebody is making money by hiring these illegals.
ditto
I don't know how many illegally resident aliens there are here, nobody does. But I'll guarandamtee you that it is closer to 8 than 30.
Here's an idea: Let's get the President's guest worker program underway, entice these shadow workers into the sunlight, and do an inventory.
Did I offer to hire you? LOL That thread two nights ago was fast and furious. Good thread, it was lively but didn't get too nasty.
Ugh. Let's try "I don't know how many illegally resident aliens that are currently here". Bad writer writing badly.
Yes, among other reasons.
But when over 90% of America totally disagrees, nothing justifies it politically. Of course, he's not campaigning anymore.
Unfortunately, this whole issue was a non-entity during the last camapign. And it still is in most of the media, and even much of talk radio. What is everybody so afraid of? It doesn't make any sense.
D'oh! I cross-posted.
But you did offer me a job. *snort*
The President's position on the Guest Worker program has remained steady for years, it was well known in the election campaign, and 62 million Americans voted him back into the highest office for four more years.
90% of Americans WILL NOT be against this proposal when it is presented and understood. A majority will support the plan. That's why it will pass through Congress and be signed into law.
Keep up the pressure on Pres. Bush, Congressman Hayworth.
This massive influx of third world southern border immigrants, both legal and illegal, is the greatest threat to our American culture and way of life.
There are community segments around my neck of the woods where Spanish is the only language spoken, and they make no attempt to adopt English.
As I've said in other posts, some mainstream cartoons are injecting Spanish phrases and terms into their dialog.
I have nothing against Latinos, and find most to be hard workers and law abiding. But there is a hardcore element streaming across the border intent on maintaing their way of life, to hell with the Gringos.
Bottom Line: We MUST slow down legal immigration of third world residents, and STOP altogether the illegal immigration (certainly much harder)
I refuse to have my kids and grandkids grow up in a country where they must fight to maintain our Eurocentrid JudeoChristian culture.
yeah but would Dubya have been reelected if there wasn't the WOT? My guess is that the win would have been much slimmer than three million votes.
You admit that you don' tknow, yet you 'guarandamtee' that it's closer to 8 than 30?
I thought your mission here was 'BS control'.
Let's regularize these folks and take an inventory. Let's get them on the radar.
ANYTHING that provides a mechanism for these criminals to validate their presence is "amnesty". Look it up.
Over 90% oppose amnesty. Probably because we realize that we are not above the law, Bill Clinton wasn't, Nixon wasn't, Sandy Berger isn't {we hope}, so why should millions of Mexicans be?
Exactly.
So how to explain the position of both Democrats and Republicans? Democrats want the votes the illegals will bring. The White House wants to give illegals amnesty. Why? It just doesn't make any sense. Somebody must be making money.
Yes he would have been re-elected. Far more easily. He survived the absolute dog days of our WOT - the '04 Iraq campaign.
You need to remember that in 2000, W beat the sitting Vice President of a two term Administration governing in what looked like "peace and prosperity". He's that good.
He is a very good politician, and a good man. But he's advocating lawlessness on this issue, and he's the head of the Executive Branch. That's disturbing.
