Immigration plan discouraged by GOP lawmakers
washington times ^ | January 13, 2005 | Stephen Dinan

President Bush cannot push his guest-worker program for illegal immigrants and new foreign workers and still win reforms to Social Security or the tax code, congressional opponents said yesterday.

"There are a lot of ambitious plans, a lot of necessary reforms that need to take place, but this rush toward amnesty-light should not be one of the priorities," said Rep. J.D. Hayworth, Arizona Republican, who called himself a friend and political ally of the president, but said Mr. Bush's immigration proposal would hurt his broader legislative agenda.

No one's "excusing" anything. Have you ever committed a traffic violation and not gotten caught?

There's a huge difference between American citizens violating traffic laws and foreigners breaking into the country and basically doing whatever they please. Sorry but your argument fails to convince very many.

OK, you're right. A terrorist attak on Israeli's wall proves we can't defend our border; in fact any attempt to do so is futile.

No, it just proves your mongering is not logical.

Yup, thanks for convincing me to your side of the argument.

You posting the same bs over and over is the only "convincing" I see.
Congrats, the newbies and DUmmies love it.

"The primary purpose of the federal government is to protect it's citizens and defend the nations sovereignty. "

Which President Bush has done quite well, thank you.

Not one single foreign country has conquered America since Bush has been President. There has not been one single terrorist attack on America since 9/11.

And the best way to protect Americans, through a strong economy, has been achieved with the assistance of immigrant labor. Crime is down. Home ownership is at an all time high. Unemployment is low.Interest rates are at an historic low. Cars are bigger and more better than ever. Living standards are up. Leisure time is up. Vacation travel is up. Restaurants are booming. Taxes have been cut.

There is no problem except among the chronic losers who will always exist and who will always find someone to blame.

>"Have you ever been to the Mexican border?"<
-Yes, and I have family and friends in Yuma, AZ.
I live in Oregon. Where do you live?
I'm betting you live in the Northeastern US.

>"What are the land acquisition costs.<"
-Much of the land along the Mexican order is Federal BLM land, National Park land, army training ground, etc. and yes, ranch land, and Indian Reservation land as well.

>"Will you be using eminent domain?"<
-Will *I*??? Of course the *government* can compensate land owners for any takings. Most would be glad to have their property protected by a border fence/wall.

>"Poor ole rancher won't be able to get his livestock down to the river."
-Tell that to the Ladd and Morin ranchers in AZ, who have had their ranches getting detroyed by illegal aliens. As I said most would be happy to have their property protected.

>"Can you elaborate on staffing numbers and cost?"<
Google it. I'm not doing your legwork, do it yourself, if you're interested. TRY:
"projected costs of a Mexican border wall"
...and while your'e googling, try:
unreimbursed "health care costs for illegal aliens"

http://66.102.7.104/search?q=cache:SI9tRM1rKXgJ:www.washingtontimes.com/national/20041206-102115-6766r.htm+health+care+cost+for+illegal+aliens&hl=en

From an article in the Washington Times:

"In August, a similar study by the Center for Immigration Studies in Washington, said U.S. households headed by illegal aliens used $26.3 billion in government services during 2002, but paid $16 billion in taxes, an annual cost to taxpayers of $10 billion."

-The cost for service for California's illegals alone is 1.4 billion per year.

And everything you listed there could and would be inmproved if we were to rid ourselves of illegal aliens. Especially taxes being cut, if we could rid ourselves of the billions of dollars in net loss we have due to the illegals we'd have even lower taxes PLUS our schools would no longer be overcrowded.

Illegals aren't responsible for any of the pluses you have listed there. It's a testiment to this country in fact that all those things are as they are in spite of the illegals presence.

It'll be much better when they are gone.

Maybe that's because the Pithchforkers keep insisting on stiffs like Bill Jones.
Cause/effect. Blame the givers not the takers, you might see results.

"Blame the givers not the takers"

Blame the victim not the mugger.

Blame the homeowner not the robber.

Blame the car not the drunk driver.

Blame the gun not the person who pulled the trigger.

Great attitude.

OK Let's hear your solution. You are pretty good at kicking everything and everyone down, criticizing folks as race mongerers, etc
(BTW, how many times are you going to repost that "mongering" word?)

You put down FR newcomers etc, but I haven' read ONE *positive* idea from YOU regarding the problem of illegal immigration, or protecting our borders.

So; let's hear your positive SOLUTION to 3 million illegal aliens sneaking in here each year.

Let's hear it:
YOUR SOLUTION:

You're right, electing Boxer and Feinstein repeatedly will solve the problem.
How dare those Hispanics take our handouts.

"Have you ever committed a traffic violation and not gotten caught?"

Sorry rod, but your example isn't very good. Illegals have broken and continue to break immigration and anti-counterfeit code and a plan has been put forth to excuse their behavior while they're yet breaking our law. Drivers, OTOH, have no proposal surfacing to excuse them of 70/35, C&R, or DWI - but in many states, just the exact opposite.

You might want to dig up another example...

OK Let's hear your solution.

Get rid of Boxer and Feinstein. Set up a guest worker plan. Dismantle the Border Patrol Union.

Considering that the takers are all voting in CA I find it doubtful that they'll vote out their cash cows.

Now if you can herd them all back to whence they came you might have a fighting chance at getting some credible politicians elected.

"It'll be much better when they are gone."

You don't know that. Ever hear of the law of unintended consequences?

No employees = no employers = no taxpayers = no social security, no military, no roads, no schools, no police....

If it ain't broke don't fix it just because some whiners don't like people who look different.

fwiw, The GOP made significant gains in Hispanic votes, and Cali booted Davis.
That's progress.

I really don't need one. It's you who are calling a guest worker program an amnesty program. There is no definition of amnesty that would make Bush's guest worker program an amnesty, except by a definition that you arbitrarily fabricate. Fabricating a definition is just another name for lying.

It took you a while to play the race card but sadly you revert to your old stand by.

It has nothing to do with looks. It has to do with being reverent enough of our way of life to do things the right way even if it takes longer.

Those that sneak across the border to work are not americans by birth or in spirit. They are simply opportunists who will exploit the next situation that comes along if it improves their lot in life.

They have no loyalties or allegiences other than to themselves. They are selfish, exploitative, lawbreaking losers.

They are the dregs of mankind.

Very true, there is optomism to be found in progress.

But how long has it taken? I doubt California could survive the wave of illegals that would inundate them if there was an amnesty/guest worker program implemented.

Any talk of a guest worker program should be shelved until the border is secured.
