CAUTION! The following may seem to be heartless, BUT:

I think the disturbed response to the President allotting so many ($350,000,000) hard earned tax dollars to other countries without the approval of US citizens is understandable. We pay taxes to keep the US afloat, NOT THE WORLD. How does the President have that power and
just who is playing God here?

Just a thought.

Well, you are right about one thing: you do sound heartless.

If you don't want to help these people because they are suffering, how about helping them so that their governments remain stable, and we avoid Islamic terrorists or the Chinese from taking over the area?

Other than about ten people on FR and Kofi Annon and Jan Egeland, and this whack job loser above, can you link ANY article that states that the good people of the United States are upset about the president donating this money?

No it's not heartless but a legit question.

I am only saying that those crying a constitutional foul on matters like this don't know the USC, history, or legal tradition.

I never suggested we must exert assistance in times like this. I am just saying there is no constitutional bar to it.

Anyone who argues that there is a bar is just wrong.

When you are at the top, I believe more is expected of you. We may need to keep the US afloat, but we also need to be mindful of the rest of the world.

This disaster is so completely outrageous, all of us need to offer a helping hand. I do not begrudge the measly few tax dollars of mine that are going to help these people. I also am personally contributing much more to my church that is assuring me that every cent is going to the people and not administrative, etc., costs.

I know then my dollars are going covered by the power of the Holy Spirit and will minister to millions of the lost. I cannot abide the selfishness of those expressed on this thread. If that is what it means to be a conservative, then count me out. I want no part of you. Take your Ayn Rand "Virtue of Selfishness" and stuff it.

When I ponder where my tax dollars do go, particularly in paying the salaries of some of those elected officials, I am very disgusted. In helping someone who has lost everything, and even today, a week later, has no food or water, I am proud and thankful for our country and our ability to be of assistance.

So whatever pigeonhole that classifies me, go ahead and put me there. I am also thankful that I answer to a higher authority who asks me to have a heart of a servant.

CAUTION! The following may seem to be heartless...

As well as sophomoric.

If the real reason for helping our fellow man is not enough for you:

"And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. Use hospitality one to another without grudging. As every man hath received the gift, [even so] minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God." -- 1 Peter 4:8-10.

Then the pragmatic reason should suffice. World economies are interconnected. We help to help ourselves:

"Society is joint action and cooperation in which each participant sees the other partner's success as a means for the attainment of his own." -- Ludwig von Mises.

Actually, the President doesn't have the power to allot. He recommends to Congress, they allot, he signs into law. It's not a democracy; it's a representative republic. These are the leaders that we elected.

just who is playing God here?

Playing God or doing God's will? Being a compassionate human being I will go with the latter..........
