If you favor an approach to war like that, I suppose you would support American troops lining up a bunch of Iraqi civilians and saying we are going to shoot these people unless you Iraqi militants surrender.
If Lincoln had been a man of peace, he would have let the South go rather than plot and instigate war with the South. It was a voluntary Union after all, and I don't remember reading about a clause written in invisible ink on the back of the Constitution that states couldn't secede when they plainly retained the power to secede under the 10th Amendment.
