Hi, gang,
I was a regular contributor to the Kerry Online Forum and am now a regular contributor to the Common Ground Common Sense forum. I am a liberal, but I'll be the first to admit, I don't have all the answers. In fact, many of hte questions that matter to me probably matter to you too. I'm concerned with questions about how to tame power, whether governmental or corporate. I'm concern with the rule of law and how we can get the powerful to take it seriously. I'm concerned with the erosion of civil liberties. And yes, I am concerned about some things you may associate with liberalism--social safety nets and taking care of those who fall through the institutional cracks.
I'm here because I think agreement is overrated and that critics can be your best friends: they keep you from getting sloppy or careless. At any rate, I think there are things I can learn from you. I don't expect you are all agreed on anything--I expect there is a lot of diversity of opinion here. If you are interested in what I have said over at Common Ground Common Sense, I'm using the same handle both places, and you should feel free to come over and look around.
Anyway, I'm new here. Anybody care to give me a tour?
Poor guy has only made it to responding to #27. This could take all week.
Actually, I think it would be a good start to reduce the presidency to the weak executive the Constitution describes.
Actually he did answer the question by saying that non of his civil liberties have been eroded. I then wondered why he was worried but he has not answered.
You can yell "fire" in a crowded auditorium, but is it wise to do it?
Freedoms are only for those that can handle the responcibility.
The problem with leftists, particularly on the gun control issue, is that they want to apply duct tape to the mouths of every theater-goer to remedy the problem of falsely shouting "fire" in a crowded auditorium, and maybe people who pass background checks can get a government-issued card exempting them from the universal mouth duct-taping by the ushers.
It's called "prior restraint," and it's inimical to a free society.
Maybe we can have an RKBA Reunion ... then you can do your George Strait hits for all of us :-).
"I'm a bright guy who is inexcuably over-educated."
I'm not bright but I did spell down my entire sixth grade class once.
Over 300 posts and not a single response of substance.
You are on to something and what few responses that are surfacing are increasingly suggest less that Rog is looking for a discussions as much as he wants to post provactions. If I want that I can read the crap at DU. I give him half an hour to get to the business of 'discussing' some of the respectfully asked questions and failing that delete this thread BUT allow Roger to keep his posting privileges but ensure he uses them in existing threads rather than post his own, at least until he proves himself.

the building I work in. I'm going to start
thinking of her as a human being"
I think you got that exactly wrong if flawed means evil.
Okay, surely you sometimes feel dark impulses that you choose not to act on? That's what I'm talking about: an inward bent to evil. Some people wallow in it, others spend their lives resisting it, but for all of us it's there.
As you noted, most people will indeed make reasonably good lives for themselves if left alone by criminals and government -- but -- criminals by definition wallow in evil and governments all too often attract the same type of person (only less brave.) Liberals tend to believe that crime is somehow externally caused (again, because they believe in man's basic goodness) and though they may cry out against the sins of government (real or imagined), they deep down believe that a truly good government is actually possible and keep trying to build it.
Well, if yer from a Blue State, lemme ask you a question. If you want a bigger and more intrusive government, why don't you accomplish that at the State level, and quit trying to impose an ever-expanding Federal Leviathan on those of us who agree with the US Constitution's limitations on Federal Government Power? Except for providing for the common defense of our Nation, we really don't need "one-size-fits-all" Federal solutions to the localized problems that confront us. Devolving power from the Federal Leviathan and back to the States, Localities, and Individuals will benefit all by giving different folks different options.

Interesting....
A very logical approach...
I have rarely found liberals to be logical, in the long run..
When presented with logic and forced to respond logically, they get pissed off..
How bout this thread of reparte'..
1) Democracy is Mob Rule by mobsters(or a consortium of them) all mobbed up..
2) Democracy is a social disease, the source of socialism which is a merely symptom.
3) No democracy ever existed that was not a socialist system..
4) America is not a democracy...
5) All liberals want this republic to become a democracy morphing all our "rights" into government allowed privileges.. No democracy that ever existed has any rights merely gov't sponsored privileges. i.e. Urp'ean gov'ts, and Canada as prime examples.
NOTE:...
Democracy is the road to socialism. Karl Marx
Democracy is indispensable to socialism. The goal of socialism is communism. V.I. Lenin
The meaning of peace is the absence of opposition to socialism.- Karl Marx
-AND-
We contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle.~Winston Churchill (1874-1965)
i.e. Socialism, even the essence of socialism..
Thanks.
There is another definition for paranoia.....it's, heightened awareness.
I do. Two boys, eight and four years old. They are terrific kids. And you?
Actually, I think it would be a good start to reduce the presidency to the weak executive the Constitution describes.<<<
