The deer hunter accused of killing six hunters and wounding two others in the woods of northern Wisconsin is believed to have resided in the Toledo area as a youth and attended Jones Junior High School.
Chai Vang, 36, of St. Paul, is listed as a student at the South Toledo school during the 1982-1983 school year, according to Toledo Public School documents.
Willie Braggs, a social studies teacher at Jones, said he remembers Mr. Vang as a student. "He was in my class in 1982 and he seemed like a pretty good student," Mr. Braggs said. "It was a real shock [to hear of the shootings]."
A wave of Laotian refugees was brought to the Toledo area in 1979 and the early 1980s. They were resettled here with the help of church groups and other local sponsors. It was not clear yesterday when Mr. Vang's family came to Toledo or when they left.
By 1994, only about 35 Hmong families remained in the area, largely because many families moved to other cities where there were more jobs available and larger concentrations of others in their ethnic group.
About 24,000 Hmong live in St. Paul.

yet it goes contrary to what you were preaching before. What is the difference between your the home and property?
I know the difference.... you are playing the nuance game just like john Kerry did....
The fact of the matter is the property is private whether it be a home or a tree stand. (plus their was cabin on the property where these folks were staying.) It still comes to the same finality.
Private property was trepassed on. They hunter could not have know the intention of Vang whether he was waiting in the tree stand to do what he did or was simply trespassing. It is approched in the same manner.

I believe one in the hunting party was owner of said property. "Police" are under NO legal obligation to answer a call regarding a problem with a hunter (as in: "armed" and possibly dangerous), and the nearest game warden could have been a few counties away. No...this situation only proves how quickly a seemingly innocuous situtation can turn to $hit in a matter of seconds. It did and we all, sadly, have something to learn from this.
Never let your guard down and never let an armed unknown have a tactical advantage over your position.
