[history]
The deer hunter accused of killing six hunters and wounding two others in the woods of northern Wisconsin is believed to have resided in the Toledo area as a youth and attended Jones Junior High School.
Chai Vang, 36, of St. Paul, is listed as a student at the South Toledo school during the 1982-1983 school year, according to Toledo Public School documents.
Willie Braggs, a social studies teacher at Jones, said he remembers Mr. Vang as a student. "He was in my class in 1982 and he seemed like a pretty good student," Mr. Braggs said. "It was a real shock [to hear of the shootings]."
A wave of Laotian refugees was brought to the Toledo area in 1979 and the early 1980s. They were resettled here with the help of church groups and other local sponsors. It was not clear yesterday when Mr. Vang's family came to Toledo or when they left.
By 1994, only about 35 Hmong families remained in the area, largely because many families moved to other cities where there were more jobs available and larger concentrations of others in their ethnic group.
About 24,000 Hmong live in St. Paul.

Thanks for the link. Maybe Credo should've read that statement first. Then our disagreement would've been over name-calling.

Well, I tried and tried to get him to read the previous threads and he chose to hang around baiting people...I doubt that would make any difference.

I read his confession and he doesn't have a prayer of self defense on but one murder and then it his version of events..They will likely not put him on the stand..He sounds like a hunter/stalker/killer in his own words.

relax its just a bad day here, welcome by the way. Just to add a little background to make what is a pretty strong reaction to your earlier statements a bit more understandable, in the last six days there have been many attempts to portray the victims of this crime as racist, redneck, bigots who got what they had coming. People are understandably a little sensitive and sick of that line of thinking. Then we get a new person in here talking about how one of the victims lacked "people skills" and so on and all hell broke loose. I'm not making excuses for anybody and agree that some of the comments you received were out of line but I hope you continue to drop by, this is the exception not the rule.

Well, if Vang would have shot at a police officer he would NOT be alive right now... Actually, I shoot USPSA combat handgun competition and police officers are not nearly as good of shooters as they are portrayed to be. They often come in to shoot with us and I think many of them just get scared off. They are always tactically competent but they are somewhat clumsy and inaccurate.
Most police shootouts are won by the police because the police have a understanding of the basics of armed combat, and their adversaries almost always have none. Against a tactically educated adversary determined to kill them, most officers don't stand a chance.

It is a confession after he claims the first man shot first over him..Some were cold blooded murder..according to his own words , whether he realizes it or not...and a bit of defense in shooting two others...he goes back and shoots a man he discovers isn't dead yet..IIRC

I don't have a problem with what I did in Nam, and will freely discuss it, as I'm proud that I served, even though I was treated like crap when I returned. My parents, both WWII Vets, were the only ones who welcomed me home and thanked me for my service, back in '72.
I'm just glad the recent Vets don't have to go through what we did.

You think that they would have called out a SWAT team?
Over a guy in a tree stand? For crying out loud!
If you understand nothing else understand this: Prior to this incident, if you called the police about someone in your deer stand they would tell you to tell him to leave!
They would NOT respond with a SWAT team. They would not respond with the state police. They in fact, would not have responded at all except to ask if you had asked him to leave. And just asking him to leave is what set out little murderer off.
