Yep, "Street Thug" has become sort of a codeword the sameway "neocon" has become a codeword.

It's more of a slap in the face of the fans. As we tell those in the music industry who dabble in politics, "shut up and sing". The fans paid to watch him play, not recline on the sidelines. How was he gonna play when the brawl was going on? And Artest was trying to stay out of fighting, until the fan threw the cup at him.
To: Doctorlawyer
I disagree. IF the "players" would have been "playing" the game, NONE of this would have transpired.
To: NYCVirago
Compare Artest's conduct in light of his past behavior and what 99% of NBA players would do when things get heated. They'd be restrained and go back to their bench. Laying on the scorer's table is egging on the Detroit players and fans. This does not excuse throwing anything at him, lest I be tarred and feathered as some sort of apologist.

Artest was so mad about getting whipped by Wallace that he went after an innocent man he could whip. And yes he will get a nice check from Artest.
I am from Ky and was celebrating the Tar Heels losing, now this has ruined it all!
ESPN whores is right! What a joke!
In 1981 Cedric Maxwell from Boston had a beer thrown on him by a fan in Philadelphia and a melee began.

"Ben Wallace is the Gavrilo Princip here."
Lol. Fifty bucks says Ben Wallace couldn't place that name to save his life.

I too miss the NHL. Were it not for our local NCAA D1 and USHL teams, this would be the winter of my discontent.

He possesses an arsenal of annoying questions, but perhaps the worst of the bunch is: "So, how do you feel right now?" (Said with his trademark whining tone and insipid smirk, of course). Asks that question in nearly every interview.

So let me guess, street thug is an ex con or con to be, black or like eminem.... someone with black envy.... and neocon is a conservative jew who doesnt take any crap?

BTW, someone threw a chair. I gues Bobby Knight was there!

Pathetic little men, all of them. Fighting over a game. If they want to fight, send them to Iraq. Let them fight like men, not punks.

I like the heavy dude with the Tayshaun Prince jersey running on the floor, challenging Artest, then pushing him down. The Artest Forcibly Thrown By Prince.

And what about the Pacers who were showered with food and beer when they were just trying to get back to the locker room alive? Were they "egging on" the fans as well?

"their beloved hockey or baseball where men throw a ball 95 mph at someone's head and get into bench-clearing brawls over "perceived" slights."
Bench-clearing hockey brawls went the way of the dinosaur many years ago.
To: NYCVirago
See earlier post where I said he didn't deserve to have anything thrown on him.

I was only answering the comment of how it could be construed as a "taunt".
Still think it's bogus to blame the fans for the whole thing.
To: mirkinmuffley
Artest was so mad about getting whipped by Wallace that he went after an innocent man he could whip. It may have already been mentioned on this thread, but it appeared to me as if the guy who actually did throw the beer at Artest was attempting to restrain him as he went after the innocent guy.
