ACLU Suing Over "Evolution Is Just A Theory" Warning Sticker On Textbooks

November 9, 2004 Evolution Sticker on Trial by Terry Phillips, correspondent

Warnings about Darwin's theory of man's origin challenged in court.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is challenging a Georgia law that requires science textbooks to have a warning sticker reminding students that the theory of evolution is just that, a theory.

The argument presented in court by the ACLU claims the stickerâ€"approved by Atlanta's Cobb County school board at the urging of 2,000 parentsâ€"discriminates against some religions, promotes creationism and restricts the teaching of evolution.

Seth Cooper, an attorney who helped to file a friend of the court brief in defense of the disclaimer, disagreed.

"The text of it is very, very simple and innocuous," he said. "It says students should study evolution with an open mind. (The ACLU has) been trying to say that no scientist anywhere disputes evolution or that no scientific evidence disputes it. "And that's just flat-out false."

The brief submitted by Cooper carries statements from 30 scientists that evolutionary theory is under growing scrutiny. Jamie Self, director of social policy for the Georgia Family Council, said the disclaimer gives the students valuable educational information.

"If we really want to pursue intellectual honesty, when we're teaching our kids, it really is the only way to go," Self said. "It is a theory; no one has ever come out and said 'evolution is a fact.' And so, if we're going to (be) teaching it, kids need to understand that it is a 'theory.' " Although the case can be seen as some sort of a legal review of evolution, Cooper said the issues to be decided are very limited.

"They're going to be dealing with the constitutionality of the sticker itself," he explained. "It's not going to be putting evolution on trial, per se." The trial is expected to be over by the end of the week.

FOR MORE INFORMATION: To learn more about the theory of evolution we suggest "The Evolution Set." This set contains the two DVDs: "Unlocking the Mystery of Life"â€"a scientific documentary for adults and students that advances a powerful idea: the theory of intelligent design and "Icons of Evolution"â€"a professional and yet engaging program that provides interviews with scientific experts which will help you come to understand the incorrect assumptions and data used by Darwin.

The source of panic for human secular/socialists is that Darwins' theory of evolution is the foundation for their philosophical worldview and thus the sledgehammer they've been using against Christianity to invalidate and eradicate it from America. They can't afford for evolutionary theory to be questioned and/or openly and critically analyzed because it's so full of holes that a ship could be sailed through it.

We're seeing the beginning of the end for this fairytale hocus-pocus parading as science, and good riddance to an ideological worldview that has unleashed upon our civilization misery, death, perversion, nihilism, disease, paranoia, and insanity.

I tend to find some agreement with the theory of evolution but recognize that it's still theory. Most science is theoretical.

Let's smoke the rats out into the open!

Our friends here on FR, The Evo-Freeps, will join hands with the ACLU, and still insist they are the mainstream of the Republican Party.

Ha!

I would like to see a list of everyone who subscribes to the ACLU. I remember seeing the late Gregory Peck on TV boasting that he was a card carrying member. I wonder who else is carrying a card.

According to the rule of the scientific method - Evolution is and always will be a theory. Why? Because the theory cannot proven by repeatable and observable experiments.

One other problem is that evolutionists cannot agree on the mechanism of evolution. Virtually no researcher subscribes to Darwinistic gradualism (the theory you were taught in high school). Many have now endorsed punctuated equilibrium and other models.

Personally I'm a creationist. As soon as someone can show me how inorganic matter rises through evolution to become organic matter I'll be more interested in evolution.

If it is, I sure hope some democrats will take advantage of it. They certainly need to do some evolving.

I'm a proud Cobb County resident, reared in the public school system, but I turned out allright. These freaks who try to indoctrinate students are scared because, perhaps once, their students will actually "critically think" and realize that what they are being told (evolution is fact) is FALSE. In fact I wish the sticker could say, "GOD CREATED YOU, AND UNFORTUNATELY HE CREATED LIBERALS SO DEAL WITH IT" Representing my alma mater Lassiter High School!! GO TROJANS!!

A little known historical fact: Darwin renounced his Theory of Evolution and repented it on his deathbed.

Agreed, however, I'll take you one further: Where did we get the onorganic matter?

"Because the theory cannot proven by repeatable and observable experiments."

I would certainly stand to be corrected as I don't follow evolution theory but I also understand that there's a problem with the fossil record.

But I certainly don't understand why there's a problem calling the theory of evolution a theory (huh?).

ACLU is sticking is nose into too many things, trying to grasp power over all of us. Already it is fighting for the right to molest children. I have to agree with Bill O'Reilly: ACLU has crossed the line.

The Left-wingers once again showing that they are a political party that is intent upon diminish the word and the presence of God in our lives.

When you can explain the collapse of the light wave function (which happens at faster than the speed of light, by the way), then you will have the right to make such an uneducated assertation.
