I have heard Alan Keyes called a carpetbagger because he is from Maryland. But I have not heard Obama called a carpet bagger and this confuses me. Obama was not born in Illinois, he was born in Hawaii. I bet Alan Keyes was born closer to Illinois.
Obama's mother was a white woman from Kansas, his father was African, Keyes' roots lie in slaves brought here from Africa, sold into slavery by Obama's ancestors, yet Obama better represents Illinois blacks.
Obama was raised a Muslim like his father and his step father who moved him it Indonesia where he was raised as a Muslim. Keyes is a Catholic. Obama claims to be Christian, a member of the United Church of Christ, check it out, they are not Baptists.
Obama went to school on the East Coast and returned to Illinois to begin his political career in Chicago in the 1990's. He is a teacher. He worked to get Bill Clinton elected. They say Illinois is a liberal state and Kerry will win here.
I do not know but from where I sit Obama is the carpetbagger, not Alan Keyes.
I love it when you talk tuff......means I was right on the money.
Ambassador Keyes is a forward-thinking conservative on the order of Walter Williams. He is not a carpetbagger in the same sense as Piaps. Amb. Keyes was invited by the Illinois Republican party to be the candidate.
Ya....Barack Obama is more Conservative than Dr. Alan Keyes. The great PooBear has spoken. Do you really expect us to buy that?
No, it means that you uttered fighting words. Uttering fighting words, amazingly enough, is usually an attempt to provoke a fight.
Put down the crack pipe and step away from the computer, please; the above sentence is proof that you've lost your f***ing mind.
The great PooBear has spoken.
You said it, not me.
Do you really expect us to buy that?
Ask yourself--you're the one who said it.
If I lived in Illinois, I'd probably vote Constitution Party this election.
They couldn't find ONE guy in Illinois to run?
Keye's hypocrisy isn't the only thing that bothers me about him, although it's a major issue since it speaks to his integrity (or lack thereof) and intellectual inconsistency. I'm also very unhappy with his position on reparations. I have the impression that Keyes is doing a lot of pandering, while simultaneously trying to put himself up on a moral pedestal. Taken as a whole it is quite disturbing, and it does not speak well of the Illinois Republican Party that it could not field a better candidate for U.S. Senate.
I'm glad I not an Illinois voter.
So you're claiming that you are not a moderate? My mistake.....there must be another guy on FreeRepublic named PooBah then.
Ditka did not want to wear a tie and jacket. LaHood wanted to keep his Rep. job. Other than that -- no one wanted to take on the Chicago Dim machine.
Contrary to what the little voices may be telling you, you are not the sole arbiter of all that is conservative.
Wow....that's probably the first time I've seen you spell it that way. Weren't you one of the ones advocating all supporters of that party to be purged from FreeRepublic?
I was advocating the purging of all those who were seeking to throw the election to the Democrats. I still advocate doing so.
That's why I'm supporting purging Keyes--because he's throwing this election to Obama.
My mistake.....I forgot that honor belonged to you and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
I don't pretend to be the be-all and end-all of conservatism.
But it's worth noting that you haven't lost your attachment to candidates who do everything they can to elect Democrats.
The great Dr Keyes is going to lose by 30+points. I don't like a liberal like Obama being the next Senator from Illinois either. But Keyes has nobody to blame but himself.
My question is simple; If Keyes is so smart, how come he says so many stupid (Stupid defined as: Saying "________ "will reduce my chance of being elected and benefiting the people of Illinois) things?
really? I was on here as Goodie D while you were still out in the ghetto riling up decent people with cries of racism.
PooBah doublespeak translation:
"That Alan Keyes sure is a right wing nutcase. He's against abortion and gun-grabbers and gay people getting married. I think I'll trash him and those that think like him. Besides....that Obama guy is such a nice young man with more mainstream views like me."
Sorry buddy. I predate Goodie D by 3 years. Nice try though.
Again, you said it, not me.
I disagree viscerally with Obama. That is why I am so damn angry at Keyes--because Obama's up 30-40 points in the polls, and Keyes is hell-bent on widening the gap.
Keyes talks nice. But talk is cheap (unless, of course, you are talking to your lawyer). Deeds are far more important than words. And Keyes' deeds have revolved around handing this election to Obama, and the state's electoral votes to Kerry.
