I have heard Alan Keyes called a carpetbagger because he is from Maryland. But I have not heard Obama called a carpet bagger and this confuses me. Obama was not born in Illinois, he was born in Hawaii. I bet Alan Keyes was born closer to Illinois.
Obama's mother was a white woman from Kansas, his father was African, Keyes' roots lie in slaves brought here from Africa, sold into slavery by Obama's ancestors, yet Obama better represents Illinois blacks.
Obama was raised a Muslim like his father and his step father who moved him it Indonesia where he was raised as a Muslim. Keyes is a Catholic. Obama claims to be Christian, a member of the United Church of Christ, check it out, they are not Baptists.
Obama went to school on the East Coast and returned to Illinois to begin his political career in Chicago in the 1990's. He is a teacher. He worked to get Bill Clinton elected. They say Illinois is a liberal state and Kerry will win here.
I do not know but from where I sit Obama is the carpetbagger, not Alan Keyes.
Maybe the argument is being based upon the dishonesty of candidate Obama concerning his religion, Sink, rather than religious bias. The voters have a right to know before they cast their ballot, wheather Obama is a practicing Muslim as his history reveals, or if he is no longer a Muslim.
Many Americans are not ready to elect a member of the sect that spawned the terrorists responsible for 911, or even to forgive anyone vaguely related to that bunch. Their attitude may be wrong, (their attitude may be right) but they have a right to whatever attitude they please, and have a right to know wheather or not their candidate holds any emotional connection with their enemies.
You could have called him on his Muslim comment without using race-baiting tactics, which don't work in this particular instance anyway. I think you are so used to crying "racist" that you do it out of habit now.
Obama himself pushed a bill in the Illinois Legislature requiring that no person can EVER be executed if they do not CONFESS to the crime!!! Imagine this lunacy. Obama trusts the word of a murderer more than the jury who try their case and find them guilty. Needless to say his bill failed, even among his own Democrat caucus. But it goes to show how Obama is a dangerous extremist who must never have a place int he hallowed halls of the U.S. Capitol.
But, I just think taking issue with Obama's religion, or his name, or his looks, or where he was born, or what his father did for a living, is gutter politics, and there's plenty of that on this thread.
He should not be elected because he's a Democrat and he's pro-abortion. But that's not enough for some people.

How does your calling Carol Moseley Braun "Carol Mostly Brown" express your dissatisfaction with her Senate record?

THe Name Obama may very well have no meaning except as a family name. Wonder if Osama, which is very close in spelling, means anything other than a family name? We are talking first and last names here of course, but many have last names as a first name.

That's an interesting question, and a tough one. I certainly wouldn't vote for Obama, because I disagree with him politically on most issues. I'd have a difficult time voting for Keyes, although I wouldn't categorically rule it out the way I would Obama. Hypocrisy really grates on me, perhaps much more than it does on other people. I might vote for the Libertarian (if there's one on the ballot) or simply choose not to vote for any Senate candidate.
I was kinda hoping that Mike Ditka would take the plunge. Even though I'm a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan, I'd have been happy to support Ditka. He has integrity, and he'd have made an extremely entertaining U.S. Senator. Oh well.
I'm glad I don't live in Illinois. It's rough enough to live here in California.
Not suprising that one of FR's most unabashedly left-of-center moderates would not be too keen on the IN-YOUR-FACE far right Conservatism of the great Dr. Keyes.

So Dr. Keyes hypocritical position on carpetbaggers is more important to you than his powerful defense of Conservatism and our Constitution? I think you have your priorities a bit skewed.

Since his opposition to Hillary's carpet-bagging was a defense of our Constitution and Conservatism...yeah, it's pretty important. It raises the question of his integrity, and whether he'll actually vote as a conservative while in office.
