Let the debates begin.
Former Presidential hopeful Dr. Alan Keyes has told Illinois Republicans that he would accept their request to take on Democrat Barack Obama in the US Senate race.
Members of the Republican State Central Committee insisted that the former radio and television commentator make the promise to run before they would give him the nod Wednesday night, sources told the Chicago Sun Times on Thursday.
The Republicans were leery of voting to give Keyes the nomination without some guarantees.
So he went back into the room and bascially said, 'If you offer, than I will accept.'
Another GOP source said that Keyes had agreed to accept the nomination but told the committee that he wanted to wait until he could publicly announce it at a 'campaign style' rally on Sunday.
'He told them that he would do it,' the source said. 'he just wanted to take a few days to put things together and make his announcement.'

The people here,who keep talking about what a great debater Alan is,how Obama is "scared" of Kesyes,and how Keyes will beat Obama in every debate,are deluding themselves.Unfortunately,Obama IS a good speaker and a more powerful one,when it comes to connecting with the general public.Keyes talks down to perople.
And yes,Rudy is NOT good,when he isn't running the show...which is WHY he's probably going to try to be Governor of N.Y. and NOT make a run for Hillary's seat in the Senate.
Another jerk.
No I don't wish, I can see the writing on the wall, and I believe that the GOP needs to be preparing for a Clinton/Obama ticket in '08.
And maybe Keyes can make the point that Obama is not from Illinois either, but the fact remains that all he can actually say is that Obama has lived there 40 times as long as he has.
I don't think that's a good argument for Keyes.
The left meanwhile, will call him a hypocrite for doing what he was so highly critical of Hillary Clinton for just four years ago.
Keyes can get hurt by this, and it would be an absolute shame.
Not here in Springfield, where you've either got rah rah govt. union types or conservatives who are scared of retaliations from the current government.
Obama is the political anti-christ.
And certainly Keyes comes across as an intellectual heavyweight. But I believe he knows the right buttons to push to get Obama to say something he would rather not say. I don't think Obama can keep up with him.
Also, I don't see a downside for Keyes. If he loses the election, he will still walk away with more people knowing about the Declaration Foundation and very likely, more financial support for it and his other endeavors.
If I knew the other side was going to kill all my men, and enslave the women and children, yes.
If we lose this political war, the outcome is death for more Americans...babes in the womb, civilians unprotected because of the disappearance of the Second Amendment and our national defense, and slavery in the form of an ever-increasing socialist state.
You are being hyperbolic, Luis. This is an election, not a physical battle anyway. It won't cost you one drop of blood. All that is required is some finances, some hard work, some leadership and to run a good campaign.
There is certainly nothing impossible about this race. Will it be difficult? Of course. But most anything worth doing is difficult.
And even if we don't succeed, we will have held down the enemy and helped other fronts in this political war.
We have the resources, we republicans, to fight the Left on every front.
You don't know anything at all about that state and its populace.
You've made post after post filled with childish insults,which aren't even up to snuff for a middle schooler.And now,NOW,you want to just move on,because I won't bite at your pathetic bait.Just like last night,when you said that you really didn't mean all of those nasty posts you made.Yeah......riiiiiiiiiiiiiight,just like that claim that you don't know what I'm talking about.LOL
Get over yourself,kid.I HAVE BEEN TALKING ON TOPIC AND POSTING FACTS,WHICH YOU HAVE TOTALLY IGNORED.
I hope the Dems fall into the same trap as you are on this carpetbagging thing.
It didn't work too well for that guy who ran against Hillary. Do you remember his name?
Even if you do, I bet most folks don't.
You don't know anything at all about that state and its populace.
You don't know what I know, RINO.
Yep. It's hilariously evident that you're terrified by the prospect of Dr. Keyes winning the election and having a prominent voice in the Senate.
Just think of it! All those conservative principles that you've tried so hard to push onto the back burner will now be back on the table!
Bwahahahahaha! I LOVE it!!!
If you were Barack Obama, why on Earth would you agree to debate Keyes?
He may do it, but it serves him no purpose.
If I remember correctly, even before Ryan's marital "issues" surfaced, he was trailing Obama in the polls.
Question: Are you against Keyes because of his race?
Obama may have been well on his way to a VP slot in the next election, I don't think buying him face time in primetime is a good idea.
~~~~~
On whose side are you on, anyway?
You know what? You ain't no broken-glass republican as you state. Your true self has shown to me in just reading a few posters of yours.
You're either with us, or you're not.
GO ALAN GO!!!
It's not "the Dems" in the sense that the DNC may not raise the charge, but you can bet your money that it's going to be shouted from pulpits in black churches, and in letters to the editor. It's going to be done the very same way that we did it here with Hillary.
There are ways to force debates.
And even if you don't succeed, there is alot of political mileage that can be made by a candidate's refusal to do so.
Oh, THAT's gonna help!
I LOVE Keyes, but he still owes money from his other campaigns, doesn't he? And his words about Hillary are going to come back and bite him on the butt!
Alan sounds like a 19th centurey orator.That is NOT appealing to Dems.Heck,after a while it isn't appealing to many Conservatives.
I could join in this "happy" delusion you've got going here and lie through my teeth,but what's the point?
Unless you kill every single Dem voter,in Ill.....never mind,they vote anyway.Look,if Alan gets 30%,that will be BIG for him.He might even drag down the votes for President Bush.This is a hard slog,this year,for the president,in Ill.and unfortunately,that's a fact.
Are you going to sit there and tell me that Keyes hasn't turned off a whole lot of people,who used to be his fervent supporters?
He's turned off the RINOs.
There isn't a politician in America who even comes close to Alan Keyes' debating and communication skills. He's absolutely the best speaker and debater I've ever seen in my life.
I know, but won't it be so fun to hear the debates?! I hope that C-span runs them so the rest of us can listen.
Nobody debates like Keyes! Man, I would love for him to be in the Senate...nobody can speak like him. This will be a fun match up!
