Let the debates begin.
Former Presidential hopeful Dr. Alan Keyes has told Illinois Republicans that he would accept their request to take on Democrat Barack Obama in the US Senate race.
Members of the Republican State Central Committee insisted that the former radio and television commentator make the promise to run before they would give him the nod Wednesday night, sources told the Chicago Sun Times on Thursday.
The Republicans were leery of voting to give Keyes the nomination without some guarantees.
So he went back into the room and bascially said, 'If you offer, than I will accept.'
Another GOP source said that Keyes had agreed to accept the nomination but told the committee that he wanted to wait until he could publicly announce it at a 'campaign style' rally on Sunday.
'He told them that he would do it,' the source said. 'he just wanted to take a few days to put things together and make his announcement.'

Agreed. You should comment more often.
I am a political junkie, that's pretty evident.
And as much as I agreed with Keye's opinions, he never connected with me.
It's like he speaks over people, maybe because he is so well-rounded and articulate.
Obama is dangerous because I believe that he can connect with the less informed voter (the majority of voters) at a glandular level.
I hate to see Keyes burned in this fashion.
YOU HAVE NO NUMBERS!
Excellent!!
Best news I heard today.
Alan would make an excellent senator. GO ALAN!!!
I don't know what you're talking about since you don't know how to paste quotes. But we need to move on now. Since Alan Keyes is the apparent candidate I hope you get behind the cause.
I'm also absolutely positive that Bush will win, and that Castro will die...some day.
I will happily eat crow after a Keyes victory.
Do yourself a favor,kid,go find someone else to show just how juvenile you are.I already know this info.
Oh, his base is quite energized.
He turns off liberals, this is true.
But he reaches young people and those who are not involved in the process when he gets the chance.
I've seen it a thousand times...disenchanted Dems, college kids, you name it, who have caught the idealism of the founding principles of America, and began to believe that there was and is hope for this country.
You preach a doctrine of negativism and defeat.
That is what turns people off, not Alan's words.
I think EV is saying he doesn't trust those who seem to close to being pom pom waving Obama supporters on this thread. Look, it seems that Keyes is the candidate, so let rally behind him.
As an Illinoian, I gleefully support Alan Keyes and am offended by claims of "carpetbagging!" Illinoians invited/implored him, and if this report is true, he after some reluctance decided to relent, to be one of 100 Senators and to reside in our state. BTW, keep in mind that "Representatives" are in that other house of Congress.
So, when you post these numbers on a thread to people you trust, can we look too?
1) I'm not your kid.
2) I'm almost beginning to think that you're so rabidly against Keyes, not because of what he beieves, but because of other things.

You have the right to opine however you like. But if you were trying to impress a girl, you wouldn't opine that her cat is detestable, would you?
It would be a tactical mistake.
"I have the right to" does not imply "I ought to".
A victory is tasty no matter how it's served.
and if I'm wrong I'll remember a serving of humble pie also.
Thank you so much for the encouragments, PGalt! Hugs!
Now, it's going to get national coverage, and Obama will come off as defeating the GOP's "hired gun", an outsider sent in by the National Party against a native son.
~~~~~~~
I hope you don't mean native son literally because he ain't.
This race will become Obama's launch into the VP slot in 2008.
~~~~~~~
Don't you wish.
