LP is Liberty Post. I think it may have been started as an FR alternative, but ended up getting those filled with hate, and they seem to hate FR more than anything else. My humble opinion.

It wasn't the fault of the judge.

Apologetics will get you no where. No matter how faulty the case was, the Judges interpretation of DC's legal status and its relation to the basic Constitutional protections of our Rights as US citizens was abhorent. His opinion could have been crafted by SArah Brady herself.

Even the NRA backed this case when they would barely lift a finger on the Silveria case that ACTUALLY dealt with the 2A issue. That you would attack the case rather than Bush's liberal appointee speaks volumes about your ideology. It sure as hell isn't "conservative" or even moderate.

Dood, the Constitution does not even mention political parties, but they are the reality of the day and what you have to work within.

Some hold that political parties are why we are so far off our Constitutional course. Not sure I subscribe to that view, but there is at least some correlation if not causation. There is a malaise in our governing system. It infects both of the Big Two parties. Bush is a band-aid on a severed femoral artery. But better than no band-aid at all.

OK, let's dissect these. George Bush supported and signed the CFR bill. He is not on the side of free (political, the most important kind) speech. Case closed.

Gun rights: President Bush pledged to sign the AWB if those that want to see it renewed can muster the political will to get it to his desk. If the Democrats manage to pull a rabbit out of their hat and actually get it done, will he do an about face? No way. Strike two.

Abortion: Bush has made his stance clear, which on its face seems promising. He signed the PBA ban which is good, but this only makes a difference in a tiny minority of cases. In actual practice he has used not his influence to push for any kind of legislative ban on abortion generally, and his lack of hard-line diligence on pushing his anti-abortion nominees does not bode well for what could happen when he nominates a SC judge on this life-and-death issue. If he can't get some lowly circuit judges confirmed how is he going to get a conservative SC judge appointed when the Democrats will really be screaming?

And what's the difference between voting for a Democrat and voting for George W. Bush? As far as I can see, it's that in 2005, if Bush was no longer President, conservatives could reclaim control of the national GOP.

I would have liked to see him push some legislation that woul require each State take up the abortion issue thereby nullifying Roe V Wade. Medical care of the populace is between the individual and the doctor. Not the Federal Government.

That it would get rid of FedGov sponsored abortion clinics is an added bonus.

There is the rather large issue of the Terrorists. One of Bush's more important saving graces. Too bad it is also one of his FEW saving graces.

The quick answer is that although I feel the spending and other things are undesirable, I do not see them as a threat to the republic.

It depends on how you define "survive". If, by "survive", you mean that our government oligarchy (at this point) remains intact and there is no civil war or foreign invasion to overthrow it, then sure, it survives. It does not, however, survive in the form the founders originally intended. It has been (seemingly) irrevocably changed. Our liberty, which is inextricably linked to the federal limits set forth in the Constitution, has surely not survived the legislative and judicial assault on it. Our God-given natural rights are now effectively up for popular democratic vote. That vote now ends up on the wrong side of our liberty as a matter of routine. We can say that the republic has survived in name and official designation only. Bush doesn't need to declare himself dictator in order to act like the dictator he effectively is, in some areas, at least.
