I waited for decades for the GOP to make good on it's rhetoric.

Oh dear.... that's because your job wasn't to wait for others to move the country or parties to the right. It was YOUR job and you failed while you sat back on your butt "for decades" and the GOP didn't move quickly enough for you. If the GOP hasn't moved as far as we want it is OUR FAULT for not educating the American public.

Instead of writing posts whining about how Bush isn't listening to the pure conservatives in the GOP coalition, write letters to the editors reaming out Americans who demand a prescription program. Go to a local PTA meeting to speak as a citizen and show your community members that public education is not provided for in the Constitution. That's just for starters but perhaps your bright enough to take it from there. Why don't you start the ball rolling ahead of time for the conservative side and begin educating folks around your community why privitizing Social Security is the best route for America.

THAT is how our Founders intended us to make political change and choices in our country.

Restore the Constitution as the law of the land

Defend the borders

Reduce government spending to what is limited to the federal government by the US Constitution

etc

I explained the safeguard, it is the Constitution. It only worked in the election to make sure that the candidate that deserved to win by the rules was in fact elected. That candidate then proceeded to igore the rest of the Constitution as most presidents have for the last 80 years.

Yes, we DO have to deal with the system we now have---which is the never-intended popular democracy we have been left with as a result of the shredding of the Constitution. As long as we can't count on representatives to respect the Constutition with our money, our laws, and our rights, we need to use popular democratic means to get them back, which sometimes entails sacrifice for the long-term picture.

That in itself may answer many things. Most people are afraid to sacrafice and face a legitimate cause or challenge. It is easier for most to let the status quo play things out and hope that the future is good to them, rather than trying to change the future for the good.

I worked, I campaigned, I supported candidates I thought had a real and honest belief in the Constitution. I protested, I spoke at public rallies, I petitioned my state house, and the federal government.

In short, I did more (and do more today) than your lazy condecending arse could ever dream of.

How would we deal with it and correct it? It is a hell of a lot more work to undo the effects of chaos and destruction than to prevent them in the first place.

To overcome the devil is one thing. To invite him to "come get some" in order to overcome him is another thing entirely.

D@##17, we haven't lost our country yet! It is within our power to fix things as they are if only we will try, there is no need for some sort of cockamamie "Ominous Big Changes" to take place.

You are here, so it is likely that you are good people. You have seen the kind of horror that these people can inflict. Would you want even the smallest fraction of what has befallen North Korea or China to come here?

That is what we are inviting. A Democrat victory will meen the drawing down of our defenses. We will get hurt, and hurt bad. Then who knows what will happen. Unlike goofy commentators, most of us here know that if we take a few hundered thousand casualties, America will cry for blood. It will get ugly. And once that fire is lit, who knows what will happen.

There is nothing that can justify that future if it can be avoided.

"Conservative" comes up a few times, but
"Republican" is completely absent from the front page.

Again, the worst choice might be the guy currently in office. Bush's spending and disregard for the Constution has been so far unprecedented by nearly all in the last century save for FDR. Tolerating a Democrat for 4 years in order to determine the course we must take is an easy choice for me. When I find myself agreeing with Democrat candidates more than the current Republican president it is time for radical steps to be taken. Bush has taken us so far down the road of big government, imperialism, and Constitutional irrelevance that it is hard to believe a Democrat could be any worse. Therefore it is no problem to use this vote to send the RNC a message.

*shakes her head* I almost wish I could agree. But the French never really did get better. You're taking a gamble that I don't think you stand a chance of winning. Last time
we tried it, we had only eight years of Clinton. There's no guarantee that if we leave our candidate again, it won't be sixteen, twenty, twenty-four or even more. The rest of the western world is headed in that direction. We're still
one of the strongest conservative nations there is. I'm not willing to give that up.

Those that blindly cheerlead for Bush can do so all they want but you're not going to sway us. Bush is every bit as distasteful as Clinton or any one of the current Democratic candidates and perhaps even worse in his no-limit power grabbing and spending habits.

Nope... the most distasteful thing on the right is the arrogance of some who assuming anyone trying to make sure Bush stays in the White House is blindly cheerleading for him. It's that same arrogance that makes folks like you so ridiculously blind about how destructive your strategy is to the right.... but that arrogance has got your head so far up your butt that you've convinced yourself it's other fella who is wrong who has his head OUT and surrounded by fresh air.

I haven't met up with a single Freeper that agrees with every single decision Bush has made... some folks here don't seem to have enough brain cells to realize that you can support a candidate even if they don't meet your preferences 100%.

Good points, but let me ask you this hypothetical question:

If you had persistent pain in your body and live it with for years, and it gets worse, do you stay away from going to a doctor because you fear it is cancer and life threatening and you fear dealing with it?

Or, as soon as it gets to a certain point, do you go to a doctor because you want to know for certain what it is and then deal with it head on?

I'd prefer the latter, so bring it on now, rather than later.
