CRAWFORD, Tex., Jan. 3 -- President Bush will propose protections for the Social Security taxes paid by the workers who would come into the country under massive changes to immigration laws he plans to announce on Wednesday, Republican officials said Saturday.
Bush's plan would make it possible for such workers from Mexico and perhaps other countries to collect retirement benefits without being penalized by their home countries for the years they spent working in the United States, the officials said.
Officials began releasing details of Bush's plan shortly before Christmas and provided new details over the weekend. The officials said Bush's plan will contain a new system to help workers who want to enter from Mexico or other countries if they have jobs waiting for them. It also includes a mechanism for some undocumented residents to continue working in the United States and get on a path to legal status.

California alone should send a message --- I know a good number --- (not a majority but a good number) of "hispanics" voted to recall Davis, I forget the percentage of votes that Bustamante won --- but all that pandering from Davis and Bustamante -- plus a 2 way split in the Republican/Conservative vote --- and the panderers didn't win.

The article said the ILLEGAL aliens pay billions into the system.
Think about it. Does it make sense? No! You're working already with a bogus Social Security number. A simple W-4 form could list N-number of dependents that wipe out withholding. Have the laws changed and you cannot do that any longer?
Nevertheless that only affects the few that are even bothering to obtain bogus documents.
I am just now starting at the top to read the replies. Maybe the W-4 question has been answered.

Making companies profitable? Aye. Putting people back to work? Nay. Your little soundbite sounds like something from Hillary. Corprorations are evil.
It is the corporations and people who start businesses who employ people and you think they are evil.
JMO, but go over to DU you will find many firends there.

Shhhhh, don't say "illegal immigrants" -- that sounds so mean. Let's call them "undocumented workers yearning to participate in the American dream, with hearts brimming with but one desire to contribute to the beautifully multi-threaded fabric that is the United States of America."

Why not? They took millions of our jobs away, didn't they? They didn't "take" our jobs away from us, they were GIVEN jobs most Americans don't want, by American employers.
The idea that people are having a fit because Bush thinks they should receive benefits after paying into the SS fund is just spiteful and pathetic.
Bush is a decent and fair President.

Where in the Washington Post article does it say anything about amnesty or citizenship? Nowhere, but the chicken littles have to have a source and the Compost is their new bible.
Me I take everything the Compost has to say with a big grain of salt, I'll wait till Wednesday to hear what the President has to say, but the chicken littles will keep on clucking with their edition of the Compost under their wing.

Can you support your suppositions with any links to actual quotes from Administration officials ? The only ones talking about amnesty, seem to be posters on the internet.

You're working already with a bogus Social Security number. What would happen to an American who might try something like this? Are there rewards for felony document fraud or do we just get punished for this crime?

Here is something I remember reading several years ago that was trying to compare the cost of deporting illegals to offering them some way to become legal aliens.
The first problem we face is that we do not know who or where these people are. So in order to deport them would require the implementation of a massive screening program of Employers, Public Vendors, Banks, and landlords. The idea of a National ID card is not a popular proposal, so that leaves the screening to be done by Law enforcement officials whenever they come into contact with illegal aliens, this is not the answer.
This is why I support a limited guest worker program that requires them to register with the INS, so that we know who they are what they are doing here by means of the taxes they pay.
The other thing that has to be done, is to jail those who hire illegals. We show a few Hotel Managers and Farm owners doing the Perp Walk and things will change.<p.But in my mind, the only way we will ever solve the immigration problems we have on our southern border is when the Mexican economy improves enough that it's no longer so attractive to come here and work. This is why I am so against an increase in the minimum wage. Every time it has gone up in the past, the amount of illegals crossing the border goes up 2 fold

Sounds to me that the border has tightened if the amount of siezures has gone up so dramatically???????
It's a dog and pony act. Both Clinton and Bush tightened up on the border... leaving little manpower for interior enforcement. The American Interior is the problem. Under Bush, as under Clinton, 90% of all deported Illegals are apprehended within three days of crossing the border. Once an Illegal gets to the American Interior, they are nearly home free. The Border is where Clinton and Bush have both pretended to be protecting American sovereignty. What happens in the in Interior gives lie to that claim.

They didn't "take" our jobs away from us, they were GIVEN jobs most Americans don't want, by American employers. Where is your evidence that the jobs offered to illegals were ever offered or posted for Americans to decide they wanted or didn't want? What is the average time an employer advertized for help before sending a recruiter down to Mexico? What was the pay that was offered to Americans when they turned the jobs down?
The jobs you have to steal or use a forged document to obtain are often jobs Americans would take --- in those cases, often the illegal is pulling a fast one on the employer.

We love Bush except for this one single most important issue. Do you even think we do not 'wish' to vote for him?! We have contacted him repeatedly 'begging' for his reconsideration. We have contacted DHS, repeatedly, they laugh! Doesn't that bother you as an American?! "W" will win no matter what we do to protest! Ridge has so much laughed and stated this! We just want to exercise our rights to put our action where our mouth is. Where is yours? Writing in a few thousands Tom Tancredo's is going to hurt you how?
