Exurge, Calvinisti, et judica causam tuam...
drstevej (Pope Piel I)

Exurge, Calvinisti, et judica causam tuam...

Arise (some mss read Swarm), O Calvinists, and plead your cause. The doctrines of grace are mightily assailed by those who would proclaim with their father, “I will be like the Most High.” Set forth the biblical case for a sovereign God who is jealous for His glory. Disallow through disputation (and lampooning when needed) the damnable errors of those who have refashioned the great sola doctrines into a salvation-helper gospel that exalts the fallen will of man.

From every corner, in every thread exalt the right of God to do whatsoever He pleaseth. Be not dismayed by persistent anthropocentric rantings. Blessed are you when they revile you for the sake of the truth. Happy are ye when the Servetus card is played and the strawmen are paraded before you for He who is enthroned in heaven reigns.

– Pope Piel I, Thread Pope

but as long as a man is Unregenerate, he always hates God

I keep reading Acts 10, and I keep failing to find in the unregenerate Cornelius, "a religious man, and fearing God with all his house, giving much alms to the people and always praying to God", a hatred of God.

He was certainly still filled with such errors and misconceptions that "when Peter was come in, Cornelius came to meet him and falling at his feet adored." Yet scripture plainly calls him "a just man and one that feareth God."

Worse for your case, God told Cornelius He was going to give Him the Holy Spirit because "thy prayer is heard and thy alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God." Where are those "filthy rags" that avail us nothing here?

Sorry OP. You'll never win this point because you are WRONG.

"As, then, we ought not to depreciate a man's righteousness, which begins to exist before he is joined to the Church, as the righteousness of Cornelius began to exist before he was in the body of Christian men,--which righteousness was not thought worthless, or the angel would not have said to him, 'Thy prayers and thine alms are come up as a memorial before God;' nor did it yet suffice for his obtaining the kingdom of heaven, or he would not have been told to send to Peter ..." (St. Augustine, On Baptism, 4.21.29)

Sadly, you don't even really know the teaching of your beloved St. Augustine since you reject the Baptismal regeneration he plainly confessed. One must marvel at the contradictions you impose upon him when you deny the plain teaching of the Church that regeneration normally occurs at Baptism, but that the unregenerate are able to seek out God by the working of grace on their souls - else there would be no Catechumens.

And else St. Augustine would not have blessed the unbaptized Catechumens he was teaching who were seeking out His face: "God regenerate you!" (St. Augustine, Sermon on the Creed to the Catechumens, 17)

One cannot be both regenerated and unregenerated at the same time.

No sensible Christian has any reason to hold a strange new doctrine not ever heard of until 1500 years after Christ rose from the dead.

I haven't come up with the appropriate quote. I have a reputation to maintain.

I would like to be considered for the "Tomas de Torquemada Chair Of Tolerance" if the application goes through.

The fact that our oldest son is named Calvin may be a clue as to whom we consider worthy of emulation.

"The atonement...is His own property; and He certainly may, as He most assuredly will, do what He pleases with His own." ~Loraine Boettner The Reformed Doctrine of Predestination

"It is God's prerogative to determine who shall be vessels of mercy, and who shall be left to the just recompense of their sins." ~Charles Hodge

“Whatsoever the Lord pleased, that did He in heaven, and in earth, in the seas, and all deep places. ” ~Psalm 135:6
“But our God is in the heavens: He hath done whatsoever He hath pleased.” ~Psalm 115:3

There is no attribute more comforting to His children than that of God’s Sovereignty. Under the most adverse circumstances, in the most severe trials, they believe that Sovereignty has ordained their afflictions, that Sovereignty overrules them, and that Sovereignty will sanctify them all. ~A.W. Pink

Sure, add me to your ping list, if you please.

This is all about OP, who is an independently wealthy business owner selling vast quantities of mutual funds. LOL!

Yes I also notice this when the law is given. He will say you shall not eat a certain kind of food or do a certain thing and conclude the thought with "I am the Lord your God". He seems to be saying that who He is is reason enough not to even ask why that particular law is there. I sure think you nailed this issue though in saying that "He is" is the attribute that the bible says is the biggest one. ~ biblewonk Woody.

P.S. it does seem as if there is a little envy going on among all the non-Predestinarians here wanting inclusion in our club. Haven't we always maintained that it is more fun to be a Calvinist?

1. We can tell you the meaning of those "hard" Biblical passages.
2. We get to read 6000 years of church history without wondering when our beliefs are finally going to arrive again after their first brief appearance in Eden.
3. We don't have to worry about the ordination of men who don't know that certain holes are for exit only.
4. We know nobody is going to hell for saying crap.
5. We don't have to worry about falling from grace.
6. We don't have to answer for Finney.
7. ... or the Bakers.
8. ... or the pope kissin' Satan's book.
9. The heretic Servetus is not our poster boy for all that is wrong with Christianity.
10. All the coolest people are Calvinists.

I don't think you understand the implication of verse 41.

Think: Joseph of Arimathea when you read it.

Think: French underground during WWII when you read it.

Alas, after spending all day at the office, literally, and attending to 4 kids, a wife, and even the whinny dog, who moans and barks if the alpha of the house does not play, I am not left with a great deal of time to read among the excellent and numerous Predestinarian authors. So, I must stick to gleaning my nuggets from the Bible. It's a horrible life, but somebody's gotta live it.

Ditto but 8 kids and 2 extra cats just to keep my allergies working overtime.

P.S. it does seem as if there is a little envy going on among all the non-Predestinarians here wanting inclusion in our club. Haven't we always maintained that it is more fun to be a Calvinist?

11. We don't have an onus to pray for people's salvation to a God that won't budge on the issue leaving their salvation entirely in our hands. Or doe He budge if we pray just right, or maybe we just need to pray for our own ability to do it all by ourselves, no maybe we pray that the evangelists will lead them to the Lord. No maybe we pray for the hearts of the unsaved to be softened and then for an opportunity and ability to say just the right thing.

No wonder there is so little about praying for people's salvation.

you are welcome to be a Senior Observer (won't that make xzins jealous)

This really burns me AND I insist on an appeal before the Rules Committee!!

(Do you have a rules committee, yet?)

Whereas Xzins has provided a minimum of 2 quotes, AND

Whereas Revelation 911 has provided zero quotes, AND

Whereas Revelation 911 is known far and wide to be a FAR BETTER Arminian than Xzins (or P-marlowe for that matter), AND

Whereas DrSteveJ is one point shy of a full load, AND

Whereas Whereas Xzins is a formula and not a flower TU.8UI.6P.9, AND

Whereas Xzins is only 1.6 points shy of a full load, AND

Whereas Xzins has the prerequisite disposition to be fully elected, doubly elected, partially elected, or elected as a Republican candidate,

THEREFORE

Be it RESOLVED

That Revelation 911 be removed from status as Senior Observer AND be replaced by an alternate candidate who is LESS Arminian than is Xzins.

Sorry, to cra_ on your parade, Rev, but we MUST confront injustice wherever we find it.

It is true that the verses speak of earthly, but I believe it also speaks of the many things we hold dear to us. Our own persuits of happiness, a security blanket {a comfort zone}, which we are not willing to give up. In other words, we are creating our own stumbling blocks.
