JimRob publicly stated that the best way to defeat Democrats is to vote for Republicans.
Well, duh.
All the perennial third-party types had a cow about it, and many stormed off. But we still have a higher percentage of third-party types than exist in the general population.
If FR was going to run off all non-Republicans, you wouldn't be on this thread. So, what does this "forced direction" really mean, and has it been a disaster?
I said I perceived hypocrisy, and I hoped someone would disabuse me of that perception.
I hope you can understand how someone would reasonably arrive at such a perception, given your original statement "me who has another screen name, but hasn't quite decided what he is going to do; I know that at a minimum I am going to continue to do whatever polling tracking and analysis I do under this name" makes it appear that you're considering continuing to post under 2 screen names?
The 'Dales' to 'Hugh Akston' name change seems to be one of those "understandable" ones, and perhaps the 'hiding from the wrath of Badjoe' one as well. Obviously Jim does know about the different names - but at this point, wouldn't the right thing to do be to close down 2 of the 3?
Would I be allowed to have 2 different screen names? For example, another one to use for when I wanted to say something that was out of character for "Amelia" or that might get me banned?
By the way, I personally don't regard "I am not a mod", "Admin Moderator", "Support Free Republic" etc. as multiple IDs in this case - as you say, those are for a specific purpose and not for debating.
Halloween came and he never showed up.
Always err on the side of moderation in moderation.
First off, regarding the rotation: one of Jim's biggest problems to date with Free Republic has been in trusting people who could not and should not have been trusted.
FAB, FRN, the chapters, the forum itself, and even the mod program have suffered from having people act untrustworthy.
A small, static number of freepers who are replaced only on an as-needed basis strikes me as being a good way to minimize this risk.
One minimizes risk by spreading it.. Our jury system is a good example. -- And it could be a good model for a 'mod duty' system..
Not always true. One can minimize the risk of being a target by spreading around lots of other targets.
One does not minimize the risk of leaks by letting tons of people knowing something;
work in any secure environment and you will have impressed on you the requirement of Need To Know and how important it is.
There are lots of ways to minimize risk, or to maximize it. What is appropriate for one situation may be the worst for another. One size does not fit all, your mileage may vary.
Nice little lecture on the semantics of 'minimizing risk' Dale, but you didn't address the issue as it applies to the forums moderator system..
Can you?
I think the Cliff's Notes version would be "Jim hurt my feelings and I don't like him anymore." ;-)
IMO, moderators don't help this forum be the best it can be, it's the freepers, and the more the merrier.
Moderators snooping around deleting replys and banning posters they disagree with doesn't help this site one bit.
It's really bizarre, isn't it, to think that a grown man would spend a year plotting something like this? What did he expect to happen? Did he think all of FR would rise up, throw Jim out and put him in charge? That's what he seems to be driving at.
Embarrassing.
So the question becomes: Whadda ya get when ya cross a Mocker with a Pepper?
You think????
Joe stated what it might mean, as did I, --- while commenting that its been a divisive issue, proven by this thread and many more like it..
How many more ways must it be said?
If FR was going to run off all non-Republicans, you wouldn't be on this thread.
No kidding.. Why are you belaboring the obvious?
[As an aside, I probably hold the FR record for being told to shut up or be axed. - Obviously, I'm good at skating thin ice on such occasions.]
If I'd spent a year plotting it, I'd have at least corrected all the spelling and grammar errors before posting it.
Remember those days? They were (thanks to Monica) heady days indeed!
It's strange how people will fixate on negative events in their lives, (failed romance, passed over for a promotion, etc), and allow their fixation on those events to fester until it oozes toxicity.
Get over it already and move on is the advice that I'd offer them.
Perhaps professional help is needed in some cases.
