I am so glad he going to Germany -- not Korea or Iraq or Afghanistan... He is looking forward to it. Yeah, these days working on tanks in Germany is safer than working at Midas Muffler in the States.

Missed Oktoberfest?!
My chief said that was the 'best thing' there was!
Yeah, I can see how he'd be upset about it. I think he is missing the one in Texas.
He may not realize the one in Germany is even bigger.
Well, a little bigger.

Chief said it was a blast.
But he was nuts anyway.

I'd post a pic, but my photo server has gone kaboom, or something...Can't even get to it...BAH
.....Westy.....

Pbase and Fotki have been down for most of today for some reason.
Oddly enough, some pics post, others don't.
Wonder if that's due to some things being on one server and not another?

I have a question for you Darks.. Techy question.. ;)
Do you always shut your monitor off by the button when you shut down the power of your puter? and.......... What does it mean when you shut down your monitor and it makes a loud thunking noise?
To: grannie9
In it's most basic form, a monitor is a laser shot through two sets of magnets.
Sometimes when it gets shut off, the magnets make a clunk sound.
In the big one here there's something that sounds like a capacitor stack and solenoid.(that's how it sounds at least)
I haven't opened it up to look, for obvious reasons, but I'd say that you're hearing the magnets.
I've shut off my monitor by it's nbutton, and by the power strip leading to both puter and monitor.
Doesn't seem to matter, monitor still makes it's 'zoo-ort!' sound.

OH ok... Al's has been making that noise for a few months, but it never did before.. I just wondered if it could be going bad.. Thanks sweety...
I was also curious about shuting it down all the time too.. I know some people who don't shut it down all the time.. With the button I mean.
To: grannie9
It could be going bad.
How old is it and how much dust has accumulated inside?
There's one here that makes constant random clicks and pops while wobbling or dimming the screen.
That is dust inside it making small electrical connections and sizzling instantly.
So far it hasn't blown up, but I worry...

To: Darksheare
Jeeeze, it's pretty old now.. maybe five years? How do you clean them for dust?
To: grannie9
Take it either to a computer service place, or open it up yourself and use a shopvac with a can of spray duster as well as an old soft toothbrush to gently rub dust off stuff.
(Latter action is not recommended. Too many wires and parts inside to fall off, disconnect, break, or zap you even while unplugged.)

To: grannie9
Lots of wind here as well.

To: Darksheare
LOL.. I think I'll let it blow up.. Or just hit the vacuum to the outside holes maybe...
To: Darksheare
We have big puffy white clouds and blue sky, but those clouds are really moving..
To: grannie9
That might work.
No fl;uffy white clouds here, all greyish and high winds.
Wires down nearby causing a brush fire.
