Autumn
Autumn is tapping on my door
Kaleidoscope crisp leaves
Float down from their summer holdings
Demanding attention from passing children
Who pick them up and kick them up
Autumn is teasing my nose
Fresh, cooling air
Gathering the drawing day
And presenting it as a golden sunset
That entertains my every sense
Autumn rattles against autumn
Shiny seeds removed from their spiny cases
Hang on strings
While would be conquerors
Compete in school yards
Autumn changes wardrobes
Summer styles now gone
Cotton replaced by wool
Blocking out a lazy wind
That tries to penetrate our defences
Autumn gathers bountiful delights
Harvest's festival of food
Gathered for celebration
Wheatsheaf loaves with golden mice
Celebrating Mother's nature

Thanks for visiting, Jen
I am no poet but I often see poems that appeal to me.
And guess what? .... I'll bet I can find a joke or two to share.
Hope you visit whenever time allows.

A woman and a man are involved in a car accident. It's a bad one. Both of their cars are totally demolished but amazingly neither of them are hurt.
After they crawl out of their cars, the woman says, "So you're a man, that's interesting. I'm a woman. Wow, just look at our cars! There's nothing left but fortunately we are unhurt. This must be a sign from God that we should meet and be friends and live together in peace for the rest of our days."
The man replied, "I agree with you completely. This must be a sign from God!
The woman continued, "And look at this, here's another miracle.... My car is completely demolished but this bottle of wine didn't break. Surely God wants us to drink this wine and celebrate our good fortune." Then she hands the bottle to the man. The man shakes his head in agreement, opens it and drinks half the bottle and then hands it back to the woman.
The woman takes the bottle, immediately puts the cap back on, and hands it back to the man.
The man asks, "Aren't you having any?" The woman replies, "No. I think I'll just wait for the police.....

How exciting, Amy! Can't think of a better person to host the vacancy created by Cote's departure. I can tell this is going to be a fun place to be! Want a giant Misty Ping?

A man was in his front yard mowing grass when his neighbor, came out of the house and went straight to the mailbox. He opened it, looked inside, slammed it shut, and stormed back into his house. A little later he came out of his house again, looking nervous, went to the mailbox, again opened it, and slammed it shut again. Angrily, back into the house he went.
As the man was getting ready to edge the lawn, here his neighbor came again, looking very heated up. He marched to the mailbox, opened it and then slammed it shut harder than ever. Puzzled by his actions, the man asked him, "Is something wrong?" To which the ferocious man replied, "There certainly is! My stupid computer keeps telling me I have got mail!"

What a beautiful opening Amy! I especially like the wolf! I haven't written poetry since my hair was dark brown, but I do like to read it!
Congratulations on your new thread, it will be a huge success I am sure. There are a lot of talented people here on FreeRepublic!

Thanks for the ping! :-)

Thanks for the ping, and I hope that this remains a poetry list. Whilst I do enjoy prose, poetry is a welcome respite. I am somewhat less than talented when it comes to producing cogent and enjoyable uses of the written word, I truly enjoy the efforts of those gifted in allusion and allegory.
I suppose I'll most likely just be a lurker here, but kindly keep me on the ping list.
Thanks, Don
