My younger brother, in 8th grade, just informed me that one of his teachers has told students that there will be consequences if they use certain words in class... the list included the "f-word" and the "G-d" word...
We'll be calling the principal next week...

Wasted words. Just home school. It'll get their attention, trust me. Your dialogue with an administrator is like reading Shakespear to your dog.
If you must, the school board is your only other bet.

Agents of the government cannot ban the practice of religion or religious speech. I would call the principal at home tonight and let him know that he faces a very bad few weeks if an apology is not issued forthwith.

I'll tell you what... on my campus that teacher would be straightened out, but fast. He's a teacher, not a censor.

Maybe the teacher doesn't want the children to use God's name in vain?

Maybe the teacher doesn't want the children to use God's name in vain? Doubtful. He equated it with the "f-word."

Demand a face-to-face meeting after your call, and make a point of having a face-to-face with the teacher, as well. It is illegal to institute policies such as a ban the use of the word 'God.' Period. (assuming it's a public school).

Neither the newsmedia nor the school has any interest in promoting conservative principles. If you can get them to eat each other up, go for it.

Are you sure that they aren't banning its use as a expletive? As in "Oh God" or "Gahhhhhd"? After all, the context of the banning (with other swear words) makes me wonder.
To: sdk7x7
Make sure they didn't mean gd as an abbreviation for "god damn."

Jews do so because of religious restrictions.

Sounds like time for a twist on George Carlin's "Seven Dirty Words": God, Jesus, Christ, Moses, communion, resurrection, Lord.
Have your son try those in class.

Some people use it that way. I would want the teacher to clarify.
