THE GAME
Posted on 08/27/2003 9:31:23 AM PDT by 7thson
Need some help. I remember a short story where a guy falls off a ship and is stranded on an island. He is force to play a game - he is the hunted and the owner of the island is the hunter. At the end, he turns the tables and kills the hunter and gets to sleep in his bed. Anyone know the full title of this story, who the author is, and a good web-site to check out plots of short stories?

Didn't Andy Griffith star as the "hunter" in a made for TV movie based on this story years ago? The only time I saw him portray a bad guy, and he did it well.

I seen Andy Griffith play an alcoholic in a made for tv movie. We watched it when I was in jr high. Always weird watching typcast good guys play deeply flawed individuals.

"The Most Dangerous Game"
Can't recall the author's name.
It has been incorporated into numerous TV shows and movies, most notably an episode of "Hart to Hart" and an episode of "Gilligan's Island".

What is the name of the story by Kurt Vonnegut where anyone "gifted" intellectually or physically is handicapped by devices that weigh them down or cause them to hear shrill noises to interrupt their mental processes?

Ah, and let's not forget the movie re-make "Surviving the Game" starring Ice-T and Rutger Hauer. How that got passed up by the Academy we'll never know.
