How much do Rx sunglasses cost? [vanity]

Fellow FReepers... I have a non-news question, hopefully you can help me out. I just got a coupon in the mail from Lens Crafters for 50% off prescription sunglasses. As a general rule, how much do prescription sunglasses cost? $100-$200? Anybody have any idea? Thanks.

I paid $250 for a set of Serengeti frames with dark (mirrored scratch too easily) lenses.

It was easily worth it. I can see, and don't look like a complete dork (for a change).

He was talking about RX sunglasses. You know when you're near sighted. Otherwise the plain old fashioned el cheapo plano drug store kind will do fine.

No its not. RX = glasses prescribed by your optometrist after an eye exam. Its the optician that makes the glasses exactly to compensate for the degree of your vision loss.

Transition lenses would do the trick. Hubby wears progressive lenses with the transition option. They get real dark in very bright light. He LOVES them. The newer models work much faster than the older ones. I wear the progressive lenses, but because of catarats can't do the transition option as it leaves me 'night' blind.

The hilarious thing about the designer sun glasses is that they all are the same as to their cost of manufacture. I used to be in the sunglass business and soon found that our sunglasses (non-prescription) were of higher quality, tougher (molded lexan lenses and frames) and as good looking as the Oakleys etc. Ours cost about 1/0 the price of the designer models. We sold a ton of them.

I haven't had to wear glasses all the time until just a couple years ago, and went straight to bifocals. In shopping around, I found that the "while you wait" places cost a lot more than the shops that have them made off site. No matter what they advertised, it always seemed there were conditions to those deals that made them not so good, and those $99.00 specials seemed like flimsy junk. I went to my regular pharmacy and ordered a pair in some nice finished titanium alloy frames (OSHA safety certified) with regular bifocals for about $170. In two years I have not had to even tighten a screw on them. For sunglasses I got a Foster Grant clip on in a matching style for about 12 bucks.

If it weren't for prescription sunglasses I couldn't see at all. But if I had good vision I sure wouldn't spend more than $15 on a non-prescription pair. BTW I love your tagline.

I agree, and I have a very nice pair of rx sunglasses. $140 frames and $140 tinted/polarized lenses. Of course, I've had them for 3 years now, so it was a very good investment. When one has worn glasses since the age of three, and can't see properly without them, one tends to learn how to take care of a good pair of glasses.

Of course, for those who have had the Lasik and other eye surgeries, a cornea transplant is an option, I suppose. My 79-year old mother recently had a transplant, so I suppose most anyone could have one. She hasn't had much discomfort, either.
