*PRESS RELEASE*

FREE REPUBLIC – Idle chit-chat succeeded today in accomplishing what no Thermobaric Bomb ^ could destroy. The third and largest of the Hobbit Hole threads imploded under it's own weight Monday, reaching the unsurpassable 16-bit limit of 65,535 posts. The Hobbit Hole is the first thread at Free Republic to reach such a length in the history of the forum.

The actual implosion was a quiet affair, with only friends and close family in attendance. When a reply was attempted to the last post on the thread, made at 9:33 pacific time on August 8, the following message appeared:

After a 10-minute period of silence.... a new Hobbit Hole was posted ( The Hobbit Hole IV – The Road Goes Ever On… ) at 9:43, and the dwellers there continued chatting on as if none of it had ever happened.
