Wow! And the third soundtrack hasn't even come out! I just love the music he created to bring Tolkien to life. He really has an affinity for the story; his motifs are just perfect! I cannot WAIT to hear the Gondorian theme, after having heard the Hobbit and Rohan ones.

Howard Shore gets a nice recognition!!

Funny thing about that score--I didn't notice it at all at first showing of FOTR. I even complained to hubby that it lacked power--then I bought the soundtrack, and it's one of the things I play most often for a long drive. The reason I didn't notice the score then was that I was so overcome by the movie itself, I hadn't any attn left over for the music.

LOTR is simply the most amazing and wonderful movie score, ever. It's longer and richer than any great opera, is better than Wagner or Bizet (though he grabs some style from Wagner for effect--as did Tolkien!!). There's a leitmotif for almost every character, and a leitmotif for almost every scene locale! Even the ring has its own music.

The only gripe I have about the movie music is that I believe Tolkien's lyrics should have been used instead of the original new lyrics created. But I'll be soothed on that gripe as long as I get a full-length "Elbereth Gilthoniel" at some point. (Not just the truncated version on the FOTREE).
