The Hobbit Hole IV – The Road Goes Ever On…
Posted on 08/04/2003 9:43:18 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
The Road Goes Ever On
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Did we decide on Friday, or Saturday, after Christmas? Rose and I can do either one, but I don't remember what MBY's schedule is like!

Funny though, the elf couldn't keep his eyes off Kidman either. He kept looking at her while he talked instead of Leno. Prolly wonderin' how he'd look in her dress...

Stopping in briefly. I decided to go out and forage for more multi-colored lights. Got some nice swag lights for the front porch. Still need another spiral Christmas tree, but haven't found one I like. I have two, one red, one green. I want one just like them, except 7ft instead of 5ft and solid blue. Don't want multi-color for that one.
Came home and spent about an hour getting leaves out of the front yard. Can't tell it. But I'll be ready to put stuff out tomorrow. Gonna go ahead and take care of the outside and not worry about inside until the house is back together. Perhaps just a nice poinsettia on the dining room table is just the right touch...
Anyway, gotta go get a shower and head to the Christmas production. B-i-l and s-i-l have already taken Nana to see the other grandkids. We're taking Luke to the show for the first time. He's seen rehearsals before (and he's actually been in two shows as well...three if you count the year the Mrs. was pregnant).
I'll check in later tonite. Prolly after Luke is in bed.

Hi all, I just scanned the only picture I have of my USAF "company car"
This is the smaller 5000 gallon version.

Ah yes, the one that EVERYONE should attempt the slallom course in.
The instructions basically are, 'hold it straight and run down the cones'?

Vey succinct instructions. LOL That's about as maneuverable as they are. Turning circle was about 150 feet.

150 feet on dry pavement at which speed?
I'd be rather wary of driving a mobile gascan myself, but..

Wow. That's only slightly larger than our family vehicle!

...but 'consider the source' of those words from me.
I used to drive a Humvee loaded down with enough HE to make a smouldering crater of me as if it were a jaunt to the office.
Throw in some 105mm Willy Pete rounds upright behind the driver's seat and you get pretty much an image of what went through my A-driver's mind when we were racing around Fort Drum trying to shake someone off of our tail during AT.

150' at 5mph. At 10 mph, body roll is significant. Above that, it goes tire side up.

I saw pictures of one that did on Okinawa. It rolled into a fence, punturing the tank. All 5000 gallons lost. No fire though.
