The Hobbit Hole IV – The Road Goes Ever On…
Posted on 08/04/2003 9:43:18 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
The Road Goes Ever On
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

It really must be a northern thing! But I don't complain too much because it is good and he did cook it! LOL
But I couldn't help but point out that what I was eating "isn't really chili, you know". Well, that brought on all kinds of snorting and grumbling in true dwarf fashion. He said "Who made you the authority on how chili oughta taste?" And I replied "You trying to tell me, a south Texas girl that grew up amongst Mexicans, the CREATORS of chili, that THIS is chili is like me trying to tell you, a SWEDE, that a sugar cookie is a sandbakkel!"
This brought a gaping expression for a second and then roars of laughter.

Finally got to, and read through, the link you mentioned.
*chuckle*
Yes, it would seem that "Old Tom" might be Aule.
And that would be an enigma as Tolkien had intended it to be.
(Especially since everyone assumed that the Valar did not come to middle earth anymore, yet it appeared in one or more instances and allusions that they did. Gandalf's "There are other powers at work..." comment on Caradhras.)
Hmm..
Interesting.

Saw the post counts and went, "????" and then "!!!!" because there was a slight anomaly there.
