The Hobbit Hole IV – The Road Goes Ever On…
Posted on 08/04/2003 9:43:18 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
The Road Goes Ever On
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

A Coca Cola Cake!! Someone made one of those for the Dessert Auction that Joseph's Robotics Club had last night! It went for $20!
I made one dessert, and brought a picture of a Yule Log that the winner could have delivered closer to Christmas. A friend of mine came in about halfway through the Auction, and asked which cakes were mine. I told her and she bid on and won the Yule Log for $19. When the Harvest Spice Roll came up, she was in a bid tussle with three or four people, and she won with a $50 bid!! I could NOT believe she did that. She just said "You made it, so I know it's good!" When they brought it to her, I told her to taste the filling and she LOVED it! She said she was going to slice a little off the end before Thanksgiving! It was a jelly roll style cake, so she could do that and no one would be any the wiser!

Are you on Hair and ecurbh's ping lists? Their's are the major ping lists... I only ping for the weekly post list, and then I only ping the people who have posted the previous week.
Oh, you'll get a ping next week now, in any case! ;)

Tom Bombadil is the earth itself.

Evening all; gotta catch up, single digit posting, hmm.
I thoroughly enjoyed TTT-EE and will be delving into the appendices soon. Samantha has indicated, now that dinner is over, her walk is in order. syl

"I've seen some that share almost nothing with their books save the title." "Islands in the Stream" was a good example of that (not having much in common with the book). Same with "Master and Commander" for that matter.
Although I liked "Master and Commander" anyway. Perhaps because in the 20 or so books in the series, there are so many adventures and details that you can't keep them straight anyway, so who cares if the movie also doesn't keep them straight.

I'm guessing that he's a Maiar or a Vala that stayed there in eastlands (As opposed to going and staying at Valinor). But if he was a Maia, he'd have to be far stronger than Sauron. Sauron's origin was as a Maiar of Aule, so it's more likely then that Tom would be a Vala. Back when the Daily Tolkien articles were being posted there was one speculating about the identity of Tom Bombadil. The author made a pretty convincing case that Tom is actually Aule.
I'll rummage around and see if I can find the article.....

History of Middle Earth.Oh, yeah (blush). The last one I read was Volume 7, The Treason of Isengard. I've been holding off on getting the next one, because I haven't felt like I could afford it right now... but I wants it!
