The Hobbit Hole IV – The Road Goes Ever On…

Posted on 08/04/2003 9:43:18 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

The Road Goes Ever On…

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Looks like a cool site. Can't listen here at work though because they have neither Quicktime or RealPlayer installed.

I like really strong ginger ale. Usually go to the natural foods store for it. And if I could get Vernor's here, I'd be a happy hobbit...but people have already heard me rave about it about a zillion times.

I have Schweppes, which is about the best of the grocery store brands.

I've got CS Lewis space trilogy and just never have been able to get started with it. I need to?

Yes, you do!

I'm givin' phone guy a hard time about that, too. He hasn't read LOTR in about seven or eight years (though I'm amazed at how many little details he remembers), and he never finished the space trilogy.

Heh. Today I needed to get outside and do something other than garden. This was the result:

Check out the sparkle on that chrome pipe! MMMmmmm. The bike isn't a show bike. I ride it a lot. Well usually, not lately. So, it has a lot of road wear and stuff but it still looks purty durned nice. :-)

Two things I always coveted on bikes. Chrome primary covers and twisted spoke wheels. What you can never see in a photo are ghost flames. There are assymetrical purple ghost flames through the paint on both tanks. I like the assymetric so the tanks don't just look like a decaled mirror image.

Okay, now you can see my 21" chrome twisted spoke wheel. Which is a royal pain to clean.... but is sure worth it for the view.

Since Myranda isn't with me anymore I'm gonna lose the passenger (nice word) seat and sissy bar. So, it will look a lot sportier then.

hahaha. I LOVE Schweppes! It's hard to find around here but the one store that has it on only a couple of miles from here.

Really? It's everywhere here! In multiple flavors, too - they have the regular, plus grape and raspberry...and diet. I got mine out of the vending machine here.

Can't get Vernor's, though. No way no how. Sigh.

I am very guilty of enjoying what I read for the moment only. I can usually remember what books I really like but occasionally someone will ask me about a story that I know I really loved and my mind just shuts down.

I don't forget LOTR much though. I think I got stuck with it because immediately upon finishing the whole thing (Hobbit LOTR) the first time - I just had to go back and re-read immediately because I knew there was so much I'd missed. And then generally since then, when the weather starts getting too cold to hang out outdoors, LOTR mood hits me. But, the Silmarillion got added in there as soon as it came out as well. LOL That year my best friend at the time and I both got that book for one another for Christmas. as a surprise!

I used to find it a lot when I lived in Austin. I never had the grape but I love the raspberry. I haven't even seen the raspberry in like 10 years. I didn't know they still made it. Like I said though I don't drink a lot of sodas so I hardly ever buy it. Although, I did have some at Myranda's little graduation gathering.

I love Vernor's! Nothing else has that kick. I always have be very careful about not inhaling when I take a drink though.

I don't drink soda that often, either. But when I do, it's generally ginger ale.

Heh...yeah, it'll bite you! I like some of the natural ginger ales, though they don't taste like what we think of as ginger ale. They do pack a punch, though!

I have never even seen Vernor's in a store. Though, I have heard Rosie talk about it quite a lot. My curiosity is piqued. I must begin to look for this stuff. Where does it originate.

It's made in MI. Usually can be found in the Midwest and parts of the west, as I understand it. Maybe FL and some of the south eastern states? You can't get it here except by mail order, which is pricey.

I learned about it from my mom - her family is from Michigan where it originated. We can usually find it in grocery stores in AZ.

Vernor's started out in Detroit in the 1870s. But like most business in Detroit, they got chased out of town about 20 years ago. I think their offices and bottling plants are now in the south, somewhere.

Well, I've got a heads up to look for this. I will make it a point to. Though, unlikely to find here. There are many odd items that I fancy that are not to be found in this town. Many people from elsewhere comment on this phenomena. But, whenever I get over to Ft. Worth (once a month) or down to Waco or Austin I always get treats. I will look for this there.

Hi Winmag. Whaddaya think o' my scoot?

OK, testing is done, I can go home! Woo-hoo!

Probably going to find out that the dog has completely destroyed my house. She has been bad lately, and there doesn't seem to be anything I can do about it. It's not separation anxiety or anything...she just takes whatever she wants and chews whatever she wants and no amount of scolding seems to make any difference, and I never catch her while actually in the act. </rant>
