The Hobbit Hole IV – The Road Goes Ever On…

Posted on 08/04/2003 9:43:18 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

The Road Goes Ever On…

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Just found that.

Someone posted some of the lyrics to Bobby Goldsboro's "Honey".

My day just took a steep nosedive.

What happened, Rosie?

Pre-class catch-up....

Is your day improving?

According to my personal schedule, I'm 1/3 through the day (done at office 1, about to have class, then off to office 2)

Have I mentioned I hate Mondays yet today?

You'd have to know the song to understand.

Here are the lyrics...that should give you a glimpse of just how horrible the song itself is...

HONEY

See the tree, how big its grown,
but friend, it hasn't been too long it wasn't big.
I laughed at her and she got mad,
the first day that she planted it was just a twig.

Then the first snow came and she ran out
to brush the snow away so it wouldn't die.
Came runnin' in all excited,
slipped and almost hurt herself, I laughed 'til I cried.

She was always young at heart,
kinda dumb and kinda smart and I loved her so.
I surprised her with a puppy,
kept me up all Christmas eve two years ago.

And it would sure embarrass her when
I came home from working late 'cause I would know
that she'd been sittin' there cryin
over some sad and silly late, late show.

And Honey, I miss you and I'm being good.
And I'd love to be with you if only I could.
She wrecked the car and she was sad
and so afraid that I'd be mad but what the heck.

Though I pretended hard to be,
guess you could say she saw through me
and hugged my neck.
I came home unexpectedly
and found her crying needlessly in middle of the day.

And it was in the early spring
when flowers bloom and robins sing, she went away.
And Honey, I miss you and I'm being good.
And I'd love to be with you if only I could.

Yes, one day while I wasn't home,
while she was there and all alone, the angels came.
Now all I have is memories
of Honey, and I wake up nights and call her name.

Now my life's an empty stage
where Honey lived and Honey played and love grew up.
A small cluod passes over head
and cries down in the flower bed that Honey loved.
See the tree, how big it's grown...(fading)

This:

...has to be the STUPIDEST line in a song EVER. Gag me with a spoon...

All in all, not a bad day. It gets tricksey this evening with juggling schedules and stuff. But that's "normal" for the Stormhands' household.

'course I just remembered I put a Diet Coke in the freezer before lunch...

Been there, done that. My siblings were over one evening, put a 24 pack of Pepsi in the freezer and then forgot it when they left.

They let me know next day.

I think you're fine as long as you don't open it until it's thawed. All of those cans were OK.

Nah, it's okay. It's one of the plastic bottles, not a can. I'm opening vey gradually to let the air fizz out. I just want to drink it NOW!

My b-i-l once left a can in our freezer at home...and when it exploded didn't bother to clean it up...
