The Hobbit Hole IV – The Road Goes Ever On…
Posted on 08/04/2003 9:43:18 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
The Road Goes Ever On
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

OKers.
Step-daughter's friend decided to try to act tough with me while I was driving.
Said some garbage about being able to take me on and he was 'gonna do' this or that.
Step-daughter said, "Umm.. you'd better shut up like right now."
I was grinning a storm, and 'Jeremy' didn't catch it.
He kept on lipping right up until the car nosedived in the middle of the road and went into park.
I then undid my seatbelt and came towards him with the words, "The door's there, use it if you must."
He decided he didn't want to walk the 30 miles back home, and got real quiet.
He also didn't want to step outside the car and back up his words.
He later went into hiding and I haven't seen him since.
*hmmph.*
Step-daughter thought it was hysterical, later on.
She was more concerned with us getting rear-ended at that point and wanted to know if she should move the car.
Cripes has life been a weird ride.

My posts 20,048 and 20,063 spell it out from my experiences of having brought a car to a stop on a 'young man'.
Bear in mind that I am not that much older than said 'young man'.

Well. I guess PurpleQ is not telling the story today so I will. First off, I knew the first time my kid invited PurpleQ to do something with us that I'd claimed her for life! That was when they were 7 or 8. Then, in high school, she starts dating this cocky kid that was WAY too old for her! LOL (her hubby now)
So, one day, before I met Jesus and quit being really nuts, the 3 of us, me, PurpleQ and boyfriend were riding into Waco for something or other - about a 35 mile trip. They're in my back seat. He starts telling her how fat she is. Well, that was silly, I mean, this girl was head cheerleader, homecoming queen all that stuff. She did not need no guy talking to her like that. So, we drove about 3 miles with him nagging at her for being fat and that's about all I could stand. We were right in the middle of the little town near where we lived. I slammed on the brakes right downtown in front of the First Baptist Church, threw open the door to my car and proceeded to tell him how he would treat her from now on - or die.
I can't remember if I made him get out of the car or not but I sure as heck didn't let him get into that cocky attitude of his with me. And I made it clear that not only was he NOT to talk to her like that when I was around - that if I ever even heard a hint of him doing it anywhere else I would be after his rear! Far as I know there has never been another instance of discussion of fatness from him. Now, she says she is all the time. But, it ain't true.

Kindred spirit!
My step-daughter was friends with 'Jeremy' for reasons unknown to me.
He was probably stoned or something when he started lipping at me.
But the crash stop was quite funny.
The look on his face was priceless, and he tried to squeaze into the car door as far away from me as he could get.
He did not like being stuck inside a locked car with me, with nowhere to go.
(Auto door locks are an amazing invention..)
Step-daughter did try to warn him.
*sigh*
Jeremy didn't believe her that I was in the military.
And I never made it a point to prove such until that day.
Step-daughter said I sounded like a drill-sar..
I'm not alone!

Think we can fit this in somewhere? Or do you suppose it will hit the official site at the same time?
Trailer Confirmed by USAToday!
9/15/03, 5:16 pm EST - Calisuri
USAToday is reporting that the first theatrical trailer for The Return of the King will, as previously reported, show up before New Line Cinema's 'Secondhand Lions.' The twist is that 'Lions' opens this week and the trailer will not show with the film until September 26th. The promotion for 'Secondhand Lion's' states that it is the best 'family film' since Finding Nemo, so I imagine we won't be seeing anything too graphic as far as the 3 minutes Return of the King trailer is concerned.
