The Hobbit Hole IV – The Road Goes Ever On…

Posted on 08/04/2003 9:43:18 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

The Road Goes Ever On…

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

I have seen and cared for pigs! Lord help you if they escape, that happened once too! :~D

Grr...yeah, there's that, too! Pigs are very smart, and the neighbor's used to get out all the time and come up and root through our garbage or otherwise cause trouble. One of my earliest memories is of chasing those beasts back down the road using a hula hoop as a whip. Why the hoop, I dunno - guess it just happened to be handy!

Remember too, people think chickens are stinky and draw flies. Ours don't, and if we had fifty of them on a five acre spread, they wouldn't.

I figure we'd do the same thing with the pigs...have a moving pen that doesn't get too gross too quick...pastured pigs, so to speak, instead of penned up pigs.

We'd let them run free in the pasture if we could...that would be the most sanitary...I had a friend in Lampasas that checked on their friends pigs and I went with him once. This pig rummaged around in the pasture and then came to it's pen to sleep at night!

Well, I gotta go. Gotta wash my hair and take Matthew shopping for something for his birthday...have no idea what!

Maybe a new DVD, since my folks got him a DVD/TV combo.

I had a friend in Lampasas that checked on their friends pigs and I went with him once.

LOL We had a deer lease between Lampasas and Adamsville for years. Once you turned off the Farm road onto the gravel road past the first cattle guard there was a pig farm. Criminiy!!! That was the awefulest place I ever smelled. Fortunately our deer lease was 4 cattle guards and a low water crossing further down the gravel.

However, that was where I learned to ride a motorcycle. And it was where I learned that sometimes you hold your breath over long stretches of road. Anytime you see a pig farm or a dead critter coming you just as well take a deep breath and hold it for a while.
