The Hobbit Hole IV – The Road Goes Ever On…
Posted on 08/04/2003 9:43:18 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
The Road Goes Ever On
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

My Daddy's profile looked just like the Indian on the Buffalo Nickel. My mom's oldest sister is...shall we say "eccentric"...yeah that's a nice way to put it. She swears we're descended from George Washington as well as Pocahonotas (not together of course).
But she ain't got proof.

oh yeah, plus or minus 5 years to account for the floating birthday.
thanks

Hey...where's Ruthy? Was she startin' that new job today? Yes, she was. She said it might be a while before she gets to freep from work. We need to await her arrival home for a good report!
Maybe we need to pray. She might need us.

Yeah, especially when they didn't do it legally. It was just as confusing when the govt. did it for them! We didn't know for years that my Mama's family name was mis-spelled by the folks who processed my Grandfather's papers when he arrived in New Orleans via Bordeaux from Sicily! We didn't find out until we found an old Baptismal certificate from a little parish in Louisiana for another member of his family!
He just used the spelling that the folks in New Orleans wrote down from the time he arrived, and other family members who had arrived at a different time were using a slightly different spelling! Confusin, I tell ya!

And.... come to find out, my greatgrandmother's father was the deputy sheriff of Hill county 1880s-1890sWow. You got lots of cool information. I love geneology but rarely have time to even look at my old notes anymore. I have an uncle who's the retired school superintendant in Godly who has my Grama's side way way back. like so far back i gotta doubt some of it.

It was just as confusing when the govt. did it for them! Yep. My paternal grandmother's family was renamed Kuykendall at Ellis Island. To make it more fun, we don't pronounce it 'kirkendall' the way most in TX do

there's sumthin' else? Yes, there is! I'll have to give you some recommendations one of these days. For one, I'm bettin' you'd like Old Blind Dogs (yes, it IS a strange name) - they don't have a LOT of mando, but do use it on some stuff. And there are others. Tim O'Brien of Hot Rize (the awesomest bluegrass group ever, IMO) plays a lot of hard driving Celtic music these days - Irish, mostly, with a bit of 'grass thrown in. I'm a big fan of his.

Oh yeah... Good Afternoon everyone else!

Yep, knowing that I was fascinated by the topic he's made me copies of all his stuff. Looks a bit shady in some parts to me. But, he swears by it.

Rosie, I have to respect you for playing the mandolin. My fater played that among other stringed instruments. Of course he looked like a giant with that little thing. He was actually better at the banjo. When I was a kid, you couldn't shoot except between 12 and 5 on Sundays, so, after 5 all the men would put away their guns (muzzleloaders) and get out their instruments and pick-n-grin (and drink a little drink) until well after dark.
