The Hobbit Hole IV – The Road Goes Ever On…

Posted on 08/04/2003 9:43:18 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

The Road Goes Ever On…

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Pondering something ...... someone once made a big case out of the definition of the word "is"

So, how do we define the word "official?"

It looks like an old cigarette advertisement site, or something. Which is fine with me, heck, I think the last good year was 1965. If not 1963.

But, THEY'RE here!

So how do they look to you?

I just got the last nine finished. Some will go to individual HHDs, others to WN, and one or two (an overcount on my part) will be kept around until we find a use for them.

Here's a pic of Jack Aubrey and Barret Bonden in thick of battle. Billy is the one with the bright yellow hair.

Rosie, I love that picture! He is so darling...am trying to talk my hubby into a kilt...he has NICE legs...but he wont go for it, despite the fact he *is* a Ferguson.

I think I like Billy because he *isn't* pretty...that tends to be the way my taste in men runs. Pretty boys generate no feeling in me, although it is never impossible to notice how nice they look. I tend to look at their eyes, and if their eyes don't express something, I dont notice the rest of them. OH, and their noses. I check out the shape of their nose. If I dont like the nose, I tend to blow them off. And Billy has a nice nose! And the most gorgeous green eyes I have ever seen on a person.

*sigh*

okay, IM sure youve had enough of my drool-moment.

Wneighbor, youre so right! We are gonna have to get together! I really liked Miss Congeniality! Wasnt too impressed by Benjamin Bratt, but like I said, he strikes me as one of those actors whose presence is so "loud" that it takes another strong actor or actress to counteract him. I liked Hope Floats for those scenes where Bullock got to cut loose. I agree though. It is NOT one of her better films.

When I was growing up, I got involved (around the age of 13) with the folk guitar choir...most of you will probably remember how big that sort of thing was back in the 70s. I learnt geee-tahr from the guy who started it, a graduate of A&M. His brother was a priest there in Smithville and invited our choir to join the one their for their church bazaar. I still have a few pictures. He and his brother were real cut-ups. In fact, in going through the boxes the hubby brought down for the attic, I came across a folder of all the newletters that we did while the group was still going strong. Its too bad your friend isnt a member of that church. Would love to ask her some questions.

Last I knew of our fearless guitar choir leader, he was priest at the Catholic Student Union at Baylor, but that was nigh 13 years ago, and I am sure he has been moved on, probably to a parish of his own. I am not sure I'd want to get in touch with him, though. He became friends with the rat-fink priest who chased me away from the Student Center at SWT (long story...dont think I have told it in its entirety here.)

You know the Sandra Bullock movie I REALLY REALLY REALLY LIKE...and its because it has Bill Pullman as well...is "While You Were Sleeping."

See, there's ANOTHER guy that I like...not tremendously gorgeous and perfect. Very expressive eyes. Nice nose.

My former username here in Free Republic was YrWorship. Like I said, I coudlnt remember the password and it was easier to just come up with a new one than pester JimRob for info about the old.

Pretty sure I have read every one of the Nero Wolfe mysteries. I get them out to read again at times.

Next time I am in Manhatten, I want to go see the brownstone. There is one there at that address, supposedly, or else it is the one that Rex Stout used as an inspiration. Has a plaque or something.

This is just to the Hobbit Hole in general :

Has anyone had a chance to see the new ToyBiz figures of Pippin and Merry in uniform? Amazon posted them on their site, but with no pictures...I was just curious to know if anyone had seen them yet.

Many of my copies are pretty beat up, but still legible. I was going to start them again one day soon, having just re-read my Bertie Wooster/Jeeves books by P. G. Wodehouse, but I'm all hung up with Churchill's WWII books at the moment.

I went on a pilgrimage to West 35th in 1988. I saw some brownstones, but didn't notice a plaque.

My sister in law, who lives on W 77, tells me there is one brownstone in particular that is supposed to be the one.

Not reading anything in particular at the moment, is the Wodehouse stuff any good?

You guys are in for a treat. This report from My Back Yard and her trip with Frodo to Mexico is a pleasure to read..... Still chuckling. Great stuff.
Frodo: Where am I? I am lost from the fellowship. I remember a terrible wind blowing, and a foul voice in the air crying 'Claudette', and I found myself in this strange place. Trees like I have never seen before and strange flat birdlife around me. I must try and find the others.

Texican: Venido en venido adentro, chiquito, que pasa? Todo esta bien??

Frodo: I am lost and I have to find the others? Have you seen any around here that look like me?

Texican: Si, Si, mi hijo. We saw this hombre the other day, down the road from here. Go to the Dairy Queen and go left till the road ends, and you will find the big tree, where we saw him. The tree there is said to be many thousands years old. The stranger was muy relajando there. We thought he might have been from California. Are you from California?

Frodo: No, sir, I am not. I am a hobbit from Middle Earth.

Texican: Middle Earth, ahh, then you are from Columbia?

Frodo: I thank you for your help. Good day to you, sir.

Texican: Adios muchachito, cuidad usted!

Frodo: It looks like the signature says 'Mithrandir'. I wonder who could have written this, and is it a message from elves, left here for me?

Frodo: Gandalf, is it you?? It is so good to see you! Where are we??? What is this strange place with strange trees and birds??

Gandalf: Frodo, my lad!. More important than where, is when! We are in North America. It is July 26th, in the year 2003 of the Seventh Age. And the strange trees are a family of Texicents, known here as palms. They came south to here many ages ago, and liked it so much they have stayed. I travel here often, when I need to get away from the comings and goings of Middle Earth. Come along now, we have a long road before us! And, we need to get you something to blend-in with the locals a bit.

Frodo: Where we goin', Gandalf?

Gandalf: To a fine canteena in Matamordos Mexico, my boy. They have a most remarkable pipe weed down there. They roll it into long tubes for smoking, called cigars. They are quite good!! Worth traveling several ages for.

Frodo: I think we should get off the road.

Gandalf: Won't you join me in a beer and a bath, Frodo? It is a most delightful thing called a Jacuzzi. Most delightful!

Frodo: That's ok, Gandalf. I'll just wait here, and watch for orcs.

Gandalf: Remember Frodo, if you are asked anything by the guards, just say "mi tarjeta verde está en mi zapato", and they won't bother you further.

Frodo: Alright Gandalf, - mi tarjeta verde está en mi zapato. Got it.

Gandalf: Have a Margarita, Frodo. They are very good here. Deliciouso! And the smoke is a cuban!!

Frodo: I must get the ring to Mordor, and I do not know the way! You must help me Gandalf!

Gandalf: Yes, yes Frodo. I will show you the way.

Gandalf: From here you should travel north to a place called Carolina. There is a dwarf there named Corin who can help you find the others. He is a good dwarf, and a friend of mine. Remember the Cuban in your pocket, and give it only to him. Keep it secret. Keep it safe.

Frodo: I can cut across country easily enough. I hope to see you again soon, only, in more familiar surroundings. I will be glad to get back to Sam's cooking taters again. This place has given me, what was it called again, Montezuma's Revenge??

Gandalf: Just remember, Frodo, this too shall pass.
