The Hobbit Hole IV – The Road Goes Ever On…

Posted on 08/04/2003 9:43:18 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

The Road Goes Ever On…

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

You're right, he's wrong. Which is why my mom told me not to use that version either.

Okay, I gotta go get some work done.

Wife just called. Plumber left, service company is coming with more fans, then the contractor. Said that if'n we're every gonna replace the toilet and the vanity/sink in the bathroom it just makes sense to do it now.

Sigh...now where'd I put that lottery ticket...

Morning everyone!

My grandfather is having the angioplasty (sp?) done as I type, so prayers are appreciated!

Becky's first day went VERY well. She came home with a big smiley face sticker for good behavior and everything. I'm so proud of her! *grin*

WN - Your tribute to Grama came out lovely. I especially like how the dolphin is incorporated into the art now instead of half hovering above it like it was before. I must say you are MUCH braver than I...I would have passed out getting something like that! How long did it take?

g'nad - Prayers here for a quick resolution to the medical insurance / Tri-Care problems. Please let me know what exactly needs to be done to get them on the ball. This is disgraceful!!

I'm going to run out and get TTT DVD while the kids are still in school. Alyson should be up any minute now and then I'll get ready to go.

Here's some grub to tide you all over....

Howard Shore gets a nice recognition!!

Funny thing about that score--I didn't notice it at all at first showing of FOTR. I even complained to hubby that it lacked power--then I bought the soundtrack, and it's one of the things I play most often for a long drive. The reason I didn't notice the score then was that I was so overcome by the movie itself, I hadn't any attn left over for the music.

LOTR is simply the most amazing and wonderful movie score, ever. It's longer and richer than any great opera, is better than Wagner or Bizet (though he grabs some style from Wagner for effect--as did Tolkien!!). There's a leitmotif for almost every character, and a leitmotif for almost every scene locale! Even the ring has its own music.

The only gripe I have about the movie music is that I believe Tolkien's lyrics should have been used instead of the original new lyrics created. But I'll be soothed on that gripe as long as I get a full-length "Elbereth Gilthoniel" at some point. (Not just the truncated version on the FOTREE).

Good morning Ruthy!

Prayers for your grandpa on his angioplasty. I hope you aren't too concerned, they are doin' those things all the time for folk these days. (says the chick that won't even go to a doctor)

I didn't notice the music much the first ~couple~ times through, information overload I think. But the Concerning Hobbits theme is now my ~settle down~ music. It settles me in within two or three bars. And I can clean my whole house to the Moria Music! Wonderful stuff!

The procedure itself is not worrisome, it's the fact that this is his third surgery (the second was a quadruple bypass!). His heart is very weak, so it's a matter of faith and trusting in God's Will.

I told my mom this morning that I have peace knowing that no matter the end result, I know it is God's decision, not mine - and God knows better than I do!

All that said, I'm praying fervently to keep my Abuelo a bit longer, if the Lord doesn't mind too much.

`The moon is nothing But a circumambulating aphrodisiac Divinely subsidized to provoke the world Into a rising birth-rate.'' - Christopher Fry

BAH HUMBUG!!
SCROOGE!

The moon is the lesser light
to guide us as we fly at night
through night skies
and sandman blinds
little fireflies blinking bright
to our lovers glowing soft
in mystical lands
set aloft
in our dreams
and night time schemes

The moon is soft as we go
reminding us to every show
loving kindness in our day
and a poet's heart at interplay.
