Hi CG!! speaking of kitties - my cat Candi has always had a problem with ear mites. She must have them again because she "hates" me to pet her ears and also the worst thing is she starts scratching her ears and she scratches so hard and so fast she makes herself yelp!! Once I treated it myself. I crushed garlic cloves and left them in some olive oil for a bit. Then I took q-tips and dipped them in and cleaned her ears out with that mixture. I had to do it about 3 times a day and the black crap that would come out on the q-tip was really something. It eventually helped but I doubt it healed the problem. She likely needs to go to the vet for her injection. Ear mites with that particular cat have ALWAYS been an ongoing problem. NONE of my other cats have ear mites or fleas.

LOL - I saw that one too. None of us kitty lovers could EVER do that!! Sounds pretty funny tho.

Yes, I have seen that. Have you seen the directions for giving a cat an enema? I had that once but lost it somewhere. It was funny! Dangerous too! When Missie got corked up once I calle the pet ER and they said to give her metamucil with a little food or I could give her a little milk or I could give her an emema....Tried the metumacil and now she gets a few pinches in a half jar of babyfood each evening as her treat. She has had no problems since.
I had a cat once that had earmites and they don't like the ears messed with.Missie has to take her methimizole for her hyperthyroid by ointment in the ear. She is pretty good about it. Taco on the other hand, I have to tackle to give him a gob of petromault to keep the furballs going through his system.

GOL.
My cat has a prob with bacteria in her ears.
Mimics ear mites, but never clears up with earmite meds.
And she HATES the stuff we have to use to clean her ears out.
And having 24 pounds of Holstein looking cat angry at you is not a pleasant experience.....

Uh, I don't know what to do with that problem other than take the cow size kitty to the vet! Poor thing..ears probably are really irritated and fussing just makes it seem worse. Good thing people don't get earmites...

We hit her with meds, and they've cleared up a bit.
As for her weight ,no-one seems ot know what to do with her.
She really doesn't eat that much, but her weight stays a constant 24 pounds.
But she's such a DIVA.
She freaks out when the Starlings come near the window, is reduced to quivering shreds by thunder, and nips my ankle if I'm not in bed by 9.
I wouldn't trade her for anything.
Captiol that humans don't get ear mites.
Imagine what we'd be doing?
*ugh!*

If the vet thinks kitty should lose wt. try to get kitty on a diet My little Nacho was overweight and nothing I did got him slimmer. In the end, he became hypertensive and died.

It is going to take a lot of patience with kitty on a diet. Nacho would bang on the door, meow and meow and it was sorta sad. I had him on the science diet R/D and he hated that so I put him on low cal regualr cat food and he didn't like that either so I thought I would mix his favorite with the diet stuff and he would sort it out....so finally I just gave him what he liked but cut the portions and gave him little bitty treats ( those tooth cleaning hard treats) about 4 or 5. And the hell of it was just as soon as kitty was starting to trim down some we whould have to go somewhere and guess what the lazy kittysitter did...free fed him!!!!!!!! :^( Not only did it set his progress back, it took forever to get him back on a diet.
When we came back from Europe last summer, the first thing I noticed was something wrong in the iris of his eye. Took him in and he had a partial detached retina. Was going to take him to a specialist but first ( since I had to wait to get him in for 10 days) I had his teeth cleaned and that is when they found out he had hypertension. We put him on meds and slowly he started to improve but then one Sunday he started to crash but I thought it was the medicine and I took him in the next morning and his bloods were a mess..anemia, no platelets, everything that could go wrong did. He died that afternoon.. I still miss him a lot.

Kearen is pretty active, and honestly does not eat that much.
But she IS a hefty cat, which stumps everyone.
All blood tests came back perfectly normal, which should not be considering her size.
She is rather short of body length yet has huge paws.
(Maine Coon/ Norwegian Forest cat sized paws on a cat the body length of a Manx.)
I worry about her life crazy.
Another odd part, she normally likes ALL other cats.
Save ONE.
'Momma' cat was going after her kittens, hissing and swatting at them, and slapped Kearen in the face claws and all.
Kearen does hold a grudge quite well and quite long.
Ever since then, she has been chasing 'Momma' cat around and literally slapping her around like a rag doll.
('Momma' is the size of an Abyssinian, very thin and tiny.)
It's like watching a Battleship play with a pleasure cruiser.
The only POSITIVE note on this one is that KIearen is lighter by about two pounds just from chasing 'Momma' cat.
When I get the new apartment, thankfully, Kearen will NOT be 'mixed in' with 'Momma' cat.
