My mom and dad also have never been expressive. I find that being expressive is much more rewarding whether it is a good feeling or bad feeling you express. In professional life we wear so many masks and keep so many secrets. For me it's good to be expressive in your personal life. One thing my kids tell me frequently is how much they appreciate my open love for them. They say that their friend wish their dads were like me. I was always the most popular parent with the kids on the track team from 7th grade through 12th grade.

he is very expressive with the kids, much more so than my father was. my dad was very proud of xsbro and i. he didn't really show it, but after he died, his friend and neighbor told me how proud he was. he probably didn't say it in those words to him, either, but that was the gist of it.
i don't know how to explain it. we are a very expressive and loving family, but we are not gooey. like gabz and i have said before, it is more likely to be expressed with affectionate sarcasm.

My dad was also one of the most popular on the block when I was growing up. I never remember any of the other dads out playing ball in the street with the kids (even when my brother and I weren't) and my dad always did it.
