NEWS - Dixie Chicks Return, Zing Bush Again 06/04/2003

(6/4/03, 10 a.m. ET) -- The Dixie Chicks took a new shot at President George W. Bush at the Palace Of Auburn Hills in Auburn Hills, Michigan, on Monday (June 2). The Chicks had to cancel Sunday's (June 1) show in Cleveland due to lead singer Natalie Maines' sore throat, but she told the sold-out Palace audience, "I am so glad I got my voice back for tonight. I had absolutely no voice yesterday--and I swear you could hear clapping from the Oval Office." It was the only time during the evening when boos could be heard from the crowd.

Maines and the Chicks have been engaged in controversy since March 10, when she told a London audience that the Texas trio was "ashamed" that Bush was from their native state. The group has been subjected to airplay boycotts and other protests, though few demonstrators have shown up at their concerts.

The Cleveland show, canceled just 15 minutes before it was supposed to start, has been rescheduled for June 11.

The Chicks recently postponed their June 12 date in Toronto until August 6 due to concerns about SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome).

The next show for the Dixie Chicks is Thursday (June 5) at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

To all those that jumped on the Dixie Chicks critics on FR (you know, the ones that said "Let it go, already!"), we'll stop when they do......

Why do I get the feeling that their next album will feature the three of them naked, strategically covered, and be entitled "No Bush"?

...and I swear you could hear clapping from the Oval Office.

The only thing Natalie Maines knows about "clap" and "the Oval Office" is the case she would have gotten from the previous occupant if she would have been able to express her admiration and loyalty Nina Burleigh-style. ;-)

It was supposed to be a joke...however, the best thing these girls can do is just stop the political banter and sing.

It's like the Clintoons. They keep complaining that those who object to their slime won't "let it go." Then they keep bringing it up and dishing it out in order to make money.

"A bim, pure plain and simple. If she didn't have a voice then you'd be seeing here on "GIRLS GONE WILD"."

Cause Fat Nat is positive that that would be her ticket to stardom......

A joke? I would think these seasoned performers would realize they are in no position to attempt "jokes" about the Commander in Chief.

The sad thing is she thinks Bush really cares.

Yep - all the while he was at the G-8, and now that he's in the Middle East trying to broker a peace settlement between the Israelis and the Palestinians, he's totally distracted because he's spending sleepless nights worrying about what the Dixie Chicks think of him </sarcasm off>

I agree. It seems like they're really pushing their luck. Also, it'll be interesting to see how many ticket holders from the Cleveland concert choose to have their money refunded.

Like Natalie's feud with Toby Keith, she just has to keep trying to poke a stick in Bush's eye.

She wasn't implying Bush cared about what she said so much as she was implying that Bush (as a proxy for conservatives) wanted her to shut up and SHE WON'T.

Keep digging, Nat. You're getting the Shovelhead of The Year Award.
