Posted on 05/22/2003 7:35:32 AM PDT by jonalvy44

YES! This only illustrates the point that Americans are no longer tolerant of those that bash America!! This is awesome news! They can't just sneak back into our hearts, as much as they would like to.

Audience Boos Dixie Chicks at ACM Awards May 22, 7:05 AM EST

Many country music fans aren't ready to forgive the Dixie Chicks' Natalie Maines for comments critical of President Bush: Voters rejected the group's nominations for three Academy of Country Music Awards and the audience booed the mention of their name.

Presenter Vince Gill urged the audience at Wednesday night's show to "Stop it, stop it." He added: "You know who gets blessed when you forgive — you."

Maines has been in the country music doghouse since she told a London audience on March 10, before the start of the war in Iraq, that "we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas."

...

The Dixie Chicks were a late addition, performing by satellite from their hometown of Austin, Texas.

Maines sat silently as Emily Robison briefly introduced the song.

The boos erupted when Gill named the Dixie Chicks among nominees for entertainer of the year. Gill said afterward that the reaction was more subdued than at last month's Flameworthy Awards. "It was a pretty volatile crowd that time. This one wasn't so bad," he said.

It didn't seem that way to host Reba McEntire.

"It was a pretty big negative response. I don't think it's over," she said after the program.

Gary Chapman still lives in the Nashville area. Gary is still involved in the gospel music business. I had met Chapman several years ago. He is a genuine nice guy. I sat next to him at a Dick Cheney campign rally stop in the Nashville area in 2001 and had a great conversation with him.

There is a lot more to the Vince/Janis Gill and Gary Chapman/Amy Grant stories than most people know. Maybe it is best kept that way foor everyone involved. Let the good people in this heal.

No kidding, I wonder also if she's not trying to cross-over to the pop/mtv audience?

I don't think she's got the shape or the youth to compete with Britney Spears or Cristina Aguilar. Pop music doesn't require talent and she's obviously willing to go naked but I don't think that's going to be her audience.

>He was still drunk and tooted up and spilling a jug of blue valiums everywhere.

10mg's are blue--guess he didn't want to mess with the white (2mg) or yellow (5mg). Hard to kill yourself with Valium--unless you are mixing it with alcohol--then all bets are off.

Hard to believe some of the females that are attracted to these lowlifes, but I have never understood the groupie mentality

You could almost feel sorry for them. When they start playing the county fairs and little dives, they're just as apt to run into people who care about their country. Their best bet would have been born at the same time as Jane Fonda when that kind of hatred for the military was in vogue but all those old war-protestors are gone. Maybe they can move to San Francisco and play for the anarchists and US haters there. Or France maybe. I don't really know where else they can go.

I don't mean feel sorry for them for what they originally did but because they seem too stupid to even realize it yet. It'll almost hurt to watch them try to salvage their situation ---that FUKT shirt is an example ---they're going to end up looking like real fools.

...ahem...yes I remember the milligrams of drugs from back then.

Quaaludes...the best drug ever invented and now banned came in 150 and 300 in tablet and 250 and 400 in capsule.

Disco or Gorilla Biscuits..lol

Lord help us if I ever took something like that now...the original Jekyll and Hyde conversion kit.

I don't even drink anymore...hardly.

I get high on my wife, children, and cigars chased by Diet Dr Pepper...lol.

Some women will do "anything" for a rock star...anything.

Execs at Maines' record company are probably still puking from last night's fiasco. They keep trying to rehab the Chicks, but the country audience isn't gonna take it.

My local Taco Bell played one of the Chicks' songs on the overhead speaker, and all I could do was grit my teeth.

Actually my guess was that they would have the Goodman character doing a bad job, and then, whoa and behold, Bartlet, returns, in whatever fashion. (This is TV, real life need not apply, Sorkin hates repubs, he'll find a way to make this happen)

Hello! I live in Indiana and we do NOT call it pop here. It's very specific here--do you want a Coke?(if it's coke) do you want a pepsi? (if it's pepsi) Pepsi is NOT Coke. They are not interchangeable. If we are being non-specific, it is a soft drink. Maybe Hoosiers up along the Michigan border call it "pop" but not in Indy and not in southern Indiana.

Oh, they'll have a great future playing Demoncrat fundraisers and femilezzie conventions. Don't you worry about the Dixie Chicks. :/

I grew up in southeastern West Virginia back in the 50's, and we called everything that wasn't milk, juice, water, or liquor "pop".

Natalie comes from good people...good West Texas, LLANO ESTACADO people. High Plains people are straight and narrow, for the most part, BUT, WHEN WE FUCK UP....we really fuck up in a memorable way. Dear Natalie, your music is in my heart. SHUT UP.

Ahhh. Well, they live in Muncie now, but his wife is from up in Merrillville (sp?) so that would explain it.
