It was Clinton-like in its patronizing dishonesty and incredible narcissism.

In so many words: "We said we 'support the troops' (code for "we just hope they get defeated", but we'll pass over that because it's bad for record sales) - why are all these extremists unfairly picking on us?"

This ought to rank up there with Connie Chung's interview of Gary Condit as a rehabilitation attempt which backfired. They came across as really loathesome.

Did anyone catch the irony of the Army commercial (one of the best I've seen) showing veterans and today's heroes stating "in every generation ..." the commercial said more in 30 secs about what the DCs don't get. They've been using patriotism as an act, it was just part of their schtick. They used patriotism to market their music. And because so many people thought they were genuine it made their music extra special. Well the vail has been lifted and your fans got a glimpse of who you really are. Guess what they don't like who you really are.

The other part I liked was when diane sawyer asked "what would you have done about Saddam Hussein?". The brunette I believe replied that's an unfair question. No it was not it was exactly the question your president had to grapple with. Unlike you he decided to take a stand instead of whining about how many questions he had.

My wife and I watched. In my view, Natalie probably made it worse for herself. She came across as a spoiled brat. One of her "sisters" even told a story of Maines as a little girl to remove all doubt.

Diane Sawyer went a little too far in saying, "15 words...15 little words...15 itty bitty words...15 teensy weensy little itty bitty words." That should be effective with stupid rednecks. < /sarcasm>

Throughout, Primetime portrayed Maines statement as her "opinon" and that she was just "questioning" the war. If that was really what she had done, I don't think she would be in this mess. She personally attacked President Bush, but her fans are proud of him.

The point was never made by Sawyer that if a plumber went into a house and started spewing radical political views, he could also expect to pay consequences for exercising his 1st amendment right. too. These girls are no different, but they don't think so.

This was an artful piece of propaganda; ending with the girls singing the national anthem. My wife and I were expecting a puff piece, but still, we didn't expect such a thorough effort from Primetime to repair Maines self inflicted damage.

This "I-love-me-and-you-should-love-me-and-buy-our-CD's" non-apology won't cut it in my mind...but, their concerts are sold out. Will country fans put their money where their loyalty is and sit out a concert that they've already paid for? I don't know. I hope so.

Tonight was a failure if they wanted to make themselves look any better. They did more damage. But what can you expect from a cross-eyed brunette and two bottle blondes with comical tattoos on their feet that would take their clothes off for a magazine cover? Then say they want to be "role models" for young women. LOL! And they are ashamed that the President is from Texas? These trashy women have it backwards.

The statement that Sawyer made about all of the Dixie Chick Concerts being sold out. Failed to mention that the non-refundable tickets were all sold prior to the disgusting statements made by Natalie Maines.

Had the tickets went up for sale after Natalies comment. The cancellation of the concert tour due to lack of ticket sales would've been the real truth. Diane Sawyer really lowered herself to paint such an unrealistic picture of the real truth.

I was also sickened when the Dixie Chicks claimed to be role models for young little American girls. (BARF) If the Dixie Chicks think they are role models, they deserve to be raped by the likes of Saddam Hussein or Osama Bin Laden and burn in hell.

The show was a total waste of one hour of television time. Television reached an all time low tonight, next to some of the Klintoon episodes.

Natalie Maines (Dixie Chick member) Bashes Toby Keith's Patriotic Anthem

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (LA Daily News) - ABC News Anchor Peter Jennings is apparently not the only celebrity to take issue with Toby Keith's chart-topping country hit, "Courtesy Of The Red, White And Blue (The Angry American)." Now, the Dixie Chicks's lead singer, Natalie Maines, freely shares her dislike of the song. "Don't get me started," Maines told the Los Angeles Daily News. "I hate it. It's ignorant, and it makes country music sound ignorant. It targets an entire culture - and not just the bad people who did bad things. You've got to have some tact. Anybody can write, 'We'll put a boot in your ass.' But a lot of people agree with it. The kinds of songs I prefer on the subject are like Bruce Springsteen's new songs."

Keith's spokesperson had "no comment" in response to Maine's quote. In the past, however, Keith has been quick to defend the song, because it was written in tribute to his late father, who served in the Korean war. "That's why I'm so defensive when somebody jumps on that song, you know," said Keith. "You get on that and you just turn into a commie heathen with me."

I watched it too, and the chicks definitely did not help themselves. They are actually DEFIANT. They want to be "accepted" for who they are. If their careers tank, they're totally unprepared to face it.

I was surprised to hear Diane say that their album is #3. I had heard it was way down.

Toby Keith Reacts to Maines' Comments in Upcoming CMT.com Interview

In an exclusive interview with CMT.com, Toby Keith continues the verbal sparring with the Dixie Chicks' Natalie Maines. Earlier in the summer, Maines criticized Keith's No. 1 hit, "Courtesy of the Red White and Blue (The Angry American)," especially the lyrics, which Keith wrote partially about his father's patriotism.

Among many other Maines-related comments, Keith told CMT.com, "That's what I do -- I write songs. And I've had a string of number ones that I don't think anybody can take away from me. I have been BMI's Songwriter of the Year. I am a big-time songwriter and, first and foremost, a songwriter. So, I'm in the big-league of that. By you asking me what my opinion on what I think about what she said about me, that's like asking Barry Bonds what he thought about what a softball player said about his swing."
