Report Disk Seen
The intelligence office of the 509th Bombardment group at Roswell Army Field announced at noon today, that the field has come into possession of a flying saucer.
According to information released by the department, over authority of Maj. J. A. Marcel, intelligence officer, the disk was recovered on a ranch in the Roswell vicinity, after an unidentified rancher had notified Sheriff Geo. Wilcox, here, that he had found the instrument on his premises.
Major Marcel and a detail from his department went to the ranch and recovered the disk, it was stated.
After the intelligence officer here had inspected the instrument it was flown to higher headquarters.
The intelligence office stated that no details of the saucer's construction or its appearance had been revealed.
Mr. and Mrs. Dan Wilmot apparently were the only persons in Roswell who seen what they thought was a flying disk.
They were sitting on their porch at 105 South Penn. last Wednesday night at about ten o'clock when a large glowing object zoomed out of the sky from the southeast, going in a northwesterly direction at a high rate of speed.
Wilmot called Mrs. Wilmot's attention to it and both ran down into the yard to watch. It was in sight less then a minute, perhaps 40 or 50 seconds, Wilmot estimated.
Wilmot said that it appeared to him to be about 1,500 feet high and going fast. He estimated between 400 and 500 miles per hour.
In appearance it looked oval in shape like two inverted saucers, faced mouth to mouth, or like two old type washbowls placed, together in the same fashion. The entire body glowed as though light were showing through from inside, though not like it would inside, though not like it would be if a light were merely underneath.
From where he stood Wilmot said that the object looked to be about 5 feet in size, and making allowance for the distance it was from town he figured that it must have been 15 to 20 feet in diameter, though this was just a guess.
Wilmot said that he heard no sound but that Mrs. Wilmot said she heard a swishing sound for a very short time.
The object came into view from the southeast and disappeared over the treetops in the general vicinity of six mile hill.
Wilmot, who is one of the most respected and reliable citizens in town, kept the story to himself hoping that someone else would come out and tell about having seen one, but finally today decided that he would go ahead and tell about it. The announcement that the RAAF was in possession of one came only a few minutes after he decided to release the details of what he had seen.
Nine miles east of the Texas city of Marfa, far out into the West Texas desert at the base of the Chianti Mountains lies or rather, floats an age-old conundrum. Small, ethereal, lights suspended in the air with no apparent source, no identifiable location. They float, they ebb, they glow and move . . . and they defy explanation.andThe Ghost Lights of Marfa, as they've come to be known, were first reported more than a century ago. Robert Ellison, one of the first settlers in the area supposedly witnessed these mysterious glowing orbs in 1883. Since then the legend, and the surrounding curiosity, has grown. What once was a Texas-based story of interest has captured national recognition.
Marfa, Texas is a small west Texas ranching community of about 2,000 folks, located near Big Bend National Park. From:Marfa is known primarily for two reasons. The classic movie "Giant", with Rock Hudson, Elizabeth Taylor, an incredibly clean-cut Dennis Hopper and James Dean®, was filmed in Marfa. Marfa is also home of the semi- famous Marfa Mystery Lights.
The Lights, which most people describe as spherical, appear south of Marfa each evening. They appear to bounce around, vanish, then re-appear elsewhere.
According to the legend, these lights have been observed since the 1800s.
The Lights have become an important tourist attraction in Marfa, a town that has seen much better days. On a nice evening, dozens of people will stop and view the Lights at the "official" viewing area, about 10 miles east of town on Highway 90.
Ooooh. Oxygen and hydrogen. Just like the 1960-70's Saturn rocket upper stages, and the Centaur upper stage. And the Space Shuttle Main Engine (SSME). That's cutting-edge, fer sure.
People who are ignorant of propulsion often confuse "fuel" with "propellant". Propellants are oxidizer and fuel. You cannot "suck fuel from the atmosphere"; you can suck oxidizer. Air is 22% oxygen and therefore a pretty rotten oxidizer compared to liquid oxygen. And studies--repeatedly run since the 1960s--on sucking air and separating out the oxygen have shown that: (1) The equipment for doing so is incredibly heavy and (2) Any moisture in the air plays havoc with the heat-exchangers needed to liquify the oxygen. Oh, and (3) the energy required is considerable, which reduces the overall efficiency of the powerplant.
As for nuclear engines, they tend to have thrust-to-weight ratios in the "absurd" category. Whereas the SSME has a thrust-to-weight of about 70, nuclear rocket engines are in the range of 8-20. They would be suitable for an upper stage, but not for a booster. And an atomic air-breather was exhaustively studied in the 60's and 70's and it is simply a non starter. If you want, I'll provide gruesome detail.

Project Hessdalen
Project Hessdalen is a project at Østfold CollegeHessdalen is a small valley in the central part of Norway. From the end of 1981 to 1984, there was a big "UFO-flap" in that valley. Several hundreds observation was done. At the most there were about 20 reports a week. About 85% of the observations describe a bright light. The other describe daylight observations.
Project Hessdalen was established in the summer of 1983, and a big field investigation was carried out during one month in January and February 1984. 53 observations was done during that fieldwork. You may read the details in the technical report. There was also one field investigation in the winter of 1985, but no phenomena was seen during the periode with instruments present.
The observation is still going on, but now in the order of 20 a year. An automatic measurement station was put up in Hessdalen in August 1998. Alarm-pictures is sent to this station.
What shall this "phenomena" be called?
Earthlight?, Min-min light?, Unknown light?, - or just: The "Hessdalsphenomena".
Since when do Russian divers use American euphemisms in their conversations?
Just a thought.
