ATTN: Computer Savvy FReepers! I need some guidance

Posted on 04/05/2003 3:28:09 PM PST by submarinerswife

I have an idea and want to see if anyone in FreeperLand can help me. I want this for my Husband and his shipmates. I would like to make a CD with photos of the War with a soundtrack of patriotic songs. I am not sure what software I may need for a project like this but I have a brand new computer that is loaded and chances are that I have what I need. So many wonderful pictures that I want to share with him as he is deployed and only hears snipettes of news of the war.

Thank you in advance-you guys & ladies have never let me down! F

You need to get in touch with ANavyVet here on FreeRepublic. He's doing the exact same thing and trying to figure out a way to get them mass produced and sent to our military overseas. Perhaps some of the support groups for the families here at home can help with that. I'm a former dependant living in a non-military town so I don't have any contacts to check on that. Could you help?

Oops, he's making a CD of the Support the Troops Rallys all across the U.S. But it would still be a great thing to send the the troops over there to show how much support they really do have back home.

You might try:
  1. Copying a bunch of images to the CD-R;
  2. Create some HTML pages on the CD-R that display those images while playing patriotic MIDI music; and
  3. Copy over a MIDI music file to the CD-R.
So it's like a mini-website that your hub can view from the CD-R using a web browser.

If you have the pictures and know what patriotic music you'd like, I can try to whip something basic together.

But it would still be a great thing to send the the troops over there to show how much support they really do have back home.

If you want to distribute them legally you'll need a sync license for the music unless you limit yourself to public domain stuff (e.g. Sousa marches, World War I music, and the like). You may be able to convince some patriotic songwriters to let you use their music for $1, but you'll have to negotiate a license; a compulsory license (which would get you by for $0.08/copy) won't let you put graphics with the music.

OTOH, perhaps there's a Freeper who whas written some comparatively-unknown music post-9/11 who'd like to donate it to the cause?

Also, check out the daily threads posted by Diogenesis for more great photos here.

Good luck on your project!

Hi MArtin,
My computer genius daughter is going to show me how to put some pictures in a slide show using Power.
She said that I can add audio to this. If I can tap your brain that would be great! I want to find audio of the President and others to overlay the pictures.
At the Submarine Ball last year, one of the sailors from the boat, made a presentation that showed missile launches and various video and still photo shoots, with speech audio from the Captain and other sailors, and music (Molly Hatchet's "Flirting with Disaster" was the song for the missile launch- it was great.)
Any suggestions, tips and resources where i can find some great audio clips would be greatly appreciated!

Try this Google search (the first link is a good source of at least 2 Dubya sound files).

Also try this source.
