The real stament. Comments between the dashes are probably what she really was thinking. :)
Statement from Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks
March 14, 2003
"As a concerned American citizen, I apologize to President Bush because my remark was disrespectful.--- I however am still ashamed that he is from the same state as I am--- I feel that whoever holds that office should be treated with the utmost respect.---I dont really feel this way or else I never would have uttered my disrespectful comments, but what the hell its sounds good doesnt it?------ We are currently in Europe and witnessing a huge anti-American sentiments as result of the perceived rush to war. ---And as I am a weak minded ninny incapable for thinking things for myself I decided to jump onto that bandwagon with both feet---- While war may remain a viable option, as a mother, I just want to see every possible alternative exhausted before children and American soldiers' lives are lost.---in other words I want the benefits of being an American but feel no responsibility as an American------ I love my country. I am a proud American.----Geez I hope all those silly hicks bought this!!
