(b)The Dixie Chicks on KFKF(b)
Natalie Maines' remark about the President* has sparked anger on both sides. We've taken literally thousands of calls, e-mails and faxes. The vast majority of them have asked us to stop playing the Dixie Chicks until Natalie apologizes to the President...

"Our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines are over there fighting for our rights - and one of those is our Constitutional right to express an unpopular opinion. The longer this has gone on, the more I had visions of censorship and McCarthyism."
But if I publically say that homosexualism is offensive to me I can get fired from my job.
You are right, she did have the right to say that and she also has the right to feel the outrage of the vast amount of Americans that feel that bashing the President of the United States, while on foriegn soil, especially at this time, is nothing less than seditious.

The station manager is an idiot. His reference to the freedom of speech guaranteed by the First Amendment is misplaced. The First Amendment is a limitaiton on the power of government. It places no limit on, and is entirely irrelevant to, private actions. Commercial boycotts, for example, organized by private citizens as a consequence of offensive comments by public figures are not prohibited by the First Amendment.
It was once said that patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel. Given the comments of this station manager and recent similar comments by the Screen Actors Guild, I have come to believe that the First Amendment is the last refuge of "celebrities" who speak out on issues abut which they know little and who then seek to avoid the consequences of their own folly.
I suggest the good citizens of Kansas City introduce the station manager and the Dixie Chicks to another part of the First Amendment: the right of citizens to peaceably assemble. They can assemble away from the products offered by this particular station and overrated country chick band.

>>I agree with the 80% of you who abhor what Natalie said in
London. On the other hand, I believe in the Constitution. We are
putting the Dixie Chicks back on KFKF.<<
What a load of horse sh!t. Refusing to play the Dixie Chicks is quite Constitutional.
I hope this guy loses his station and his job.

Actually this might be an ill-advised ploy for ratings, if no one else in town is playing the Blixie Ditzes..why not soak up the publicity for a low rated station being the only one to play the band?

Bad business move. Upside is limited, downside infinite. This guy will be gone rather quickly.
To: JennysCool
I had never seen or heard her before. It was just a bit gutsy for her to sing/say something like that in conservative 'lil Green Bay.

"On the other hand, I believe in the Constitution."
He might believe in it, but he obviously doesn't know anything about it. The Constitution has nothing to do with consumer boycotts.

We need to keep in mind that the mainstream media is on their side and will spin it their way. However, if they get no airtime, their ratings on the country charts plummet like an anvil in freefall, and major venues cancel their concerts, it won't make a damn bit of difference what the "major media" thinks.
The "Ditsy Clits" are an embarassment to Texas.
Of course they're entitled to their opinions. And so are we. And we're entitled to express them. If you're gonna call the tune, you have to pay the piper.

He probably will.
A few dozen PO'd advertisers demanding huge cuts on their advertising rates after the next Arbitron book comes out will do wonders.

I sent my E-mail and let him know that comments like Natalie made against our Commander in Chief was a slap at every military man and woman and how could he be supporting our troops by playing music of a traitor. I also let him know that back in 1972 while I was in Viet Nam we had the same kind of loud mouth by the name of Jane Fonda who gave aid and support to our enemies.

You're right. While I like the phrase (posted by another freeper) it's inappropriate.
My apologies.
