Word For The Day, Tuesday, 2/25/03
2/25/03

Posted on 02/25/2003 12:14:47 AM PST by Bella_Bru

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

chimerical\ky-MER-ih-kuhl; -MIR-; kih-\, adjective:

1. Merely imaginary; produced by or as if by a wildly fanciful imagination; fantastic; improbable or unrealistic.
2. Given to or indulging in unrealistic fantasies or fantastic schemes.

Her name is Dulcinea; her country El Toboso, a village in La Mancha; her degree at least that of Princess, for she is my Queen and mistress; her beauty superhuman, for in her are realized all the impossible and chimerical attributes of beauty which poets give to their ladies.
--Miguel De Cervantes, Don Quixote.

Etymology: Chimerical is ultimately derived from Greek khimaira, "she-goat" or "chimera," which in Greek mythology was a monster having the head of a lion, the body of a goat, and the tail of a dragon.

I remember the first snowfall.....17 inches. I immediately bought snow tires for my car and the next day, the snow had melted away. I really don't believe Rapid City had much in the way of snow removal equipment because mother nature took care of the problem.

I think the catalogs were used primarily in the little house behind the big house.

You'd better protect all your plants, pets, pipes... and - above all - bring in your BRASS MONKEY!!

That funky monkey, brass monkey junkie, that funky monkey

Worst case scenario: based on chimerical terrorist chatter the alert goes out, we retreat to our safe rooms dutifully sealed off with duct tape and plastic sheets when all of a sudden we get some stupid song stuck in our head.

True, but their usefulness was significantly impaired when Sears switched to that glossy paper.

"True, but their usefulness was significantly impaired when Sears switched to that glossy paper."

I think that had a significant impact on ones selection of hygiene material.

Actually, I am feeling sorry for her this A.M., as I was too busy to congress with her, in her fight for classic liberal values, against some of the harsher judgements of our classmates......

Hobbes1...compassion.

I don't think I've ever seen XS use those words in the same sentence. But anything is possible.

Girls - All I Really Want Is Girls
And In The Morning It's Girls
Cause In The Evening It's Girls

I Like The Way That They Walk
And It's Chill To Hear Them Talk
And I Can Always Make Them Smile
From White Castle To The Nile

Back In The Day
There Was This Girl Around The Way
She Liked By Home-piece M.C.A.
He Said He Would Not Give Her Play
I Asked Him, 'Please?' - He Said, 'You May.'
Her Pants Were Tight And That's Ok
If She Would Dance - I Would D.J.
We Took A Walk Down To The Bay

I Hope She'll Say, 'Hey Me And You Should Hit The Hay!'
I Asked Her Out - She Said, 'No Way!'
So I Broke North With No Delay
I Heard She Moved Real Far Away
That Was Two Years Ago This May
I Seen Her Just The Other Day
Jockin' Mike D. To My Dismay

Girls - To Do The Dishes
Girls - To Clean Up My Room
Girls - To Do The Laundry
Girls - And In The Bathroom
Girls - That's All I Really Want Is Girls
Two At A Time - I Want Girls
With New Wave Hairdos - I Want Girls
I Ought To Whip Out My - Girls, Girls, Girls, Girls, Girls!

I had a job doing data base analysis. I often had to put stuff into alphabetical order, although I always found it simpler to use chimerical order.

BTW... we are BOTH right.
You-from a 1st Amendment, free-market perspective
Me - from a "right and wrong" perspective.
The law protects many an immoral act, as you know.

Postulating a hypothesis at the bar the other day.

I said the sure way to a woman's heart is to say (and here I raised my voice a bit) "It's all my fault".

Sure enough, about 10 good-looking women autonomically flicked their eyes in my direction. It must be some instinctual thing.
