I like the video with the airplane flying above her head. That one is cool.. Now that one I couldn't place. I don't watch MTV or VH1 -- the only way I see music videos is through our "Music on Demand" cable channel. Is that for "Can't Get You Out of My Head" or whatever that third single off of "Fire" is called?

Sun Ra passed on but his band still plays. These guys are in their 70s and have played with a number of other name jazz musicians.

Musically there can be everything from ragtime jazz up to more modern sounds. They do some Sun Ra originals and some standards.

The 2 shows I saw were highlights of the shows I saw those years although the concerts will vary city by city and playlist by playlist.

There are about 18 people in the band (some are newer).

It looks like they will be in Nashville in March:

Sun Ra Arkestra Returns to 12th & Porter for March 13 Concert

Saturn revisited: A benefit for Marshall Allen and the surviving members of the Sun Ra Arkestra, Thursday March 13, 12th & Porter playroom, Nashville, cover charge 12$ at the door. (all proceeds will go to Marshall Allen)

March 13 brings together two exciting bands for an evening devoted to the explorations of the highly influential life and spirit of the one and only Sun Ra. From parts unknown he began his journey on this planet, in the southern regions of Alabama, then moved on to the outer realms of space to influence generations of musicians and artists from all walks of life. The Sun Ra Arkestra is pivotal in combining improvised music with dance, spoken word, and theater while still being deeply rooted in the blues traditions of jazz. For historic details, go to

http://www.dpo.uab.edu/~moudry/ or

http://www.cyberenet.net/~kbillert/arkestra.html

Brought to Nashville again by musician, WRVU FM dj, and historian John Rogers, this show promises to bring just as much musical enjoyment as last years benefit at 12th and Porter, which was hailed by many fans of music as the best show of the year. In the spirit of last year, this show will be a benefit for the arkestra with all proceeds going directly to funding the band. Opening the evening will be The Transcendental Crayon Ensemble: Consisting of a revolving line up but centering around a core group of six players, John Rogers' Ensemble has anywhere from eight to twenty musicians on stage at any time. This group plays all styles of improvised music from funk to avante-garde jazz and beyond. The TCE also showcases the area's best abstract painters who paint while the band plays.

The headliner: (in only their second appearance ever in Nashville) The Sun Ra Arkestra under the direction of Marshall Allen. This group of almost all Sun Ra alumni is truly one of the last of the great big-bands performing on the music scene today. Marshall Allen, the current leader began playing alto saxophone and flute in the band over 40 years ago, and continues today bringing the message of music to the people of earth. This is a one night only chance to see one of the greatest and most influential bands in the history of music in a rare Nashville performance.

Does Yao get to keep his take home pay or does he have to send it to the Chinese government?

LOL!!! Good question! Hmmm, sounds like a question needing further investigation....

But I think that John Waters did the "gross-out" thing better than the current "Farrelly Brothers"-style band o' idiots are.

My favorite John Waters movie has got to be "Serial Mom". For a year after watching that movie, I wanted Kathleen Turner to be my mother SO badly! I had visions of her knocking off the bullies in my class one by one, each in their own cruel little way.

... and then I switch over to Tim Burton's "The Nightmare Before Christmas" to make me feel sweet again.

FASCINATING!

I had heard of the "10 favorite conservatives" list on Johnny's site, but I thought that was a big rumor until you told me about that. Maybe I can find a way of viewing that page by running Johnny's site through the Internet Archive and pulling up any old editions. Hopefully it won't return a "this has not been archived" error message.

Also, it's ok if they disagreed over Reagan's actions, but to hear that they were good Republicans is VERY good news and DEFINITELY good enough for me! You don't have to agree with a great president 100%, just show support for the man.

*suddenly feels like singing, "It's the end, the end of the '70s/It's the end, the end of the century..."*

It's a serious question. I heard someone ask it on the radio but never heard an answer. If Yao is still a Chinese citizen then his government may take his money as a citizen of Communist China.

I know that the Hong Kong film directors (who were doing great work in HK during the 1990s) all fled before 1997 when the Chinese Communists got control. Jackie Chan said that if he didn't become successful in America (he had tried and failed to break into the market in the mid 1980s) he would move to Austrilia or some other nation.

Jackie Chan, John Woo, Tsui Hark, Jet Li, and others all jumped ship. I just wish that they were getting better scripts and less Hollywood interference.

He seemed out of it telling his jokes about rapper 50 Cent and other "now" artists. Was he out of touch and using someone else's material, or did he have some names and insert them in existing material?

He was getting no laughs (but he had a big finish/lots of applause because he got to introduce Bruuuuuuce).

Thanks for the heads up! I don't keep up with new music that well, but this sounds like something to check out.

Now that you've recommended something for me, I feel I should recommend something for you -- Ladytron. Ladytron are Kraftwerk revisited for the 21st century. They are cool, calm, collected, and very electronic. The group consists of two males and two females, although the two females are always the singers/speakers.

Good point to start off at -- their album "604". I played it continuously when Rush Limbaugh was off for his two-week golfing adventure (I just can't get into his substitutes -- I have to have the real thing!) and got numerous songs off that album stuck in my head.

... and now, I need to get to sleep. I've already stayed up way later than I should've. Good night.

My guess is that he was using the staff writers for the event like Bruce Villianch at the Oscars (except he is funny)

I just read this in People the other day. I think Martie and Natalie live in Austin and Emily lives in Medina or something like that. Dustin knows better than to not call Texas by name. HA!
