The Guild 2-21-2003--The Anti Americans LOVED Clinton's Wars!
Best of the Web Today ^ | 2/21/03 | James Taranto

Susan Sontag has become the poster girl of anti-war protests among the intelligensia. But now a piece she wrote in 1999 about the Kosovo conflict has come to light...and it shows the blatant hypocracy of today's libs.

WHY ARE WE IN KOSOVO?" by Susan Sontag, May 2, 1999

She deplores Europe's inaction "in the face of all this irrational slaughter and suffering," and observes: "Of course, it is easy to turn your eyes from what is happening if it is not happening to you."

In answer to the placards at antiwar demonstrations, she says: "For Peace. Against War. Who is not? But how can you stop those bent on genocide without making war?"

She argues that a dictator need not pose an immediate threat to those outside his borders to justify taking action against him: "Imagine that Nazi Germany had had no expansionist ambitions but had simply made it a policy in the late 1930's and early 1940's to slaughter all the German Jews. Do we think a government has the right to do whatever it wants on its own territory? Maybe the governments of Europe would have said that 60 years ago. But would we approve now of their decision?"

In other words, she used every single argument being used today TO SUPPORT WAR in Iraq. Of course, they saw Kosovo as a "humanitarian war", not one where we greedy Americans were just protecting our own national interests (God forbid!). This needs to be seen far and wide as a perfect example of the libs' real agenda: pulling down Bush.

I'd say she's obviously expectant in that photo. I can't recall that at any time during my 5 pregnancies that I allowed my sweater puppies so much exposure in public.

Ahhh... to be rich and famous and... overexposed!

She certainly appears "healthy."

Did anyone watch the Democrat National Committee meeting on C-Span this weekend? As soon as I saw Al Charlatan (nice 'do, by the way), I had to change channels, but the WashPost reported:

Most of the speeches followed a general pattern: I'm the son/daughter of . . . (Insert Joe Lunchbox occupation: a postal worker/mill worker/milk man/etc.); I'm a regular Joe/Jane who represents the interests of The People; I've come very far in life from my youth as one of The People; President Bush is not one of The People and should be replaced by someone who is. And so on. ....

One of the things the first tier [Edwards, Lieberman, Gephardt, Kerry] has in common - other than proven abilities to raise cash, national profiles, and first-rate campaign staffs - is that they all supported the resolution last year authorizing President Bush to use military force against Iraq. ...The other four candidates [Dean, Sharpton, Moseley-Braun and Kucinich] who spoke made their opposition to Bush's policy on Iraq a major issue - and at least one of them will likely enter the first tier of candidates because of it, given the hardening opposition to a military strike among the party rank and file. full story

Good news.

February 24, 2003, 2:59 PM EST BOSTON -- A federal judge on Monday threw out a lawsuit challenging President Bush's authority to launch war against Iraq, declaring the matter a political question that shouldn't be played out in a courtroom.

The lawsuit, filed earlier this month by six Democratic congressmen and three unidentified service members and their parents, maintained that only Congress can constitutionally declare war. A resolution Congress approved in October supporting military action in Iraq did not specifically declare war, they maintained, and improperly ceded the decision to President Bush. full story, AP

Sweater puppies. That's a new one for my vocabulary! Truly funny - thanks!

She sure does look puffy, wonder how far along she is. Her face and her wrists look swollen.

The problem with starting threads hours before the event is that they attract all the morons who just post " I would never watch such junk" and mindless chatter. It then sets the tone for the whole thread to be chit chat instead of focusing on the show.

I am not saying that that is bad, but the way we always ran our live threads have been pretty much focused on the event. We also have the benefit of Hole_N-One's live photo grabs.

I thought that a half hour ahead was a polite and proper posting time for a live thread.

BTW, Lodwick, thank you for the compliment. I always try to have an informational flash.

I think she is due in about 4 weeks. I wish she wouldn't pull her hair back like that. One should not pull one's hair back when one has a puffy face.

I was really disappointed that they pulled the Guild thread. Can't we have our own thread? Just put it in the cheesehole but leave it alone?

If we put it in the cheesehole no one finds it. I get emails in the weeks leading up to an event asking for a live thread. We need to keep it in News to get any feedback and so everyone can see it. I am going to write to the Admin Moderator and let them know that we would like to host the Oscars. This would be our 3rd time hosting, but I think the 4th time I have done an Oscar thread. We are the originators of the Live Thread.

Dan Blather's got a big scoop tonight:

In an exclusive interview with CBS News Anchor Dan Rather, Saddam Hussein denied Iraq's al-Samoud missiles violated U.N. mandates, and indicated that he will resist U.N. demands to destroy them.
We'll see. I bet he agrees to destroy the missiles less than an hour before the next UN vote.

And then there's the Dem's latest president-wannabe...Dennis Kucinich. These two recent statements perfectly depict the moral obtuseness which is the Dems.

"The time has come for us to end the sanctions against Iraq, because those sanctions punish the people of Iraq for having Saddam Hussein as their leader. These sanctions have been instrumental in causing the deaths of hundreds of thousands of children."--Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D., Ohio), The Progressive, November 2002

"Saddam Hussein should be removed from power. . . . I think the way that you do it is continue to use sanctions which thwart his efforts to grow."--presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich, "Meet the Press," Feb. 23, 2003

Did he not know he would run for prez only 3 months ago??? As James Taranto (Best of the Web Today) puts it:
Such backpedaling from long-held views is, of course, nothing unusual for a presidential candidate, but in this case it's particularly pathetic. Even with his new, more palatable positions, Kucinich is about as likely to be elected president as Janet Reno is to become the next Miss Venezuela.
LOL!

UN: Your missiles violate international law

Saddam: No they don't

UN: You must destroy them

Saddam: No I don't

UN: You are a doodie-head

Saddam: No I'm not

Are you a fan of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding"?

The TV show comes on tonight. Though I think it's bound to be a letdown, I'll check out this premier. 9:30 EST.

Carole doesn't remember what her major was?! If I were a reporter I'd start checking to see if she really did graduate from college. Some how I can picture Carole fudging her resumé.
