HONEST ABE DAY

His life was what America was all about. An average boy, born on this day in 1809 on a farm in a log cabin in Hodgenville, Kentucky, was able to become the 16th President of the United States.

He studied hard, by the light of a fireplace, to become first, a lawyer, then a statesman. Abraham Lincoln, one of the most revered U.S. Presidents, served his country during one of the most turbulent times in its history. The term of his presidency (1861-1865) encompassed the Civil War between the States. His Emancipation Proclamation made on January 1, 1863 to free slaves; and his Gettysburg Address given on November 19, 1863 at the site of one of the most famous battlegrounds of the Civil War are still held high as classic statements of democratic beliefs and goals.

President Lincoln was also responsible for one of the most popular holidays in the U.S.: Thanksgiving Day. He proclaimed that the last Thursday of November shall be observed as such. And so it was, and still is.

Abraham Lincoln lived during tragic times and died a tragic death. While watching a performance of Our American Cousin at Washington’s Ford Theatre, he was shot by John Wilkes Booth and died a few hours later. Lincoln was the first U.S. President to be assassinated.

‘Honest Abe’ earned his nickname when he was practicing law in Illinois. It was his unfailing honesty that made him known throughout the state. When convinced that his client was right, he could argue the case strongly. If not convinced, he was hardly powerful in his client’s defense. Lincoln would persuade clients to settle out of court even though that meant he would receive a lesser fee. And, when this was not possible, he could argue a case equally as well before a judge or before an uneducated jury. To Abe Lincoln, being a lawyer or President meant seeking the truth for client or for country.

I got a warning citation from the local police yesterday for my right taillight being out...

Went to the service station today to get it fixed....he had a hard time disassembling the Lamp unit...seems there was an opening in the seal and the last two times I went to the car wash the lamp unit had filled with water, which then froze because of our wonderful tropical weather.


The lamp unit is in the tub, defrosting...and tomorrow the mechanic will put everything back together again.

Well Pippin, didn't Christ empty a Jewish church of money changers and others defiling a place of worship. He didn't go in there with wringing hands and whispers, did he? He went in there and declared war on the evil doers and cleaned the place up. That is just what our President is doing to the folks who murdered 3,000 souls in NY and continue to threaten us. The evil one is still broadcasting to his minions telling them to eleminate us infidels. He has had a lot of help from people living in the USA and taking advantage of our freedoms. They have solicitated money from many of our good hearted citizens under the guise of charity and sent the money on to the evil organizations to train and finance their warriors. Now if your fellow fraturnity people can't go along with our President.......after it's all over, they will surely take advantage of the freedoms bought by our mighty military.

Being old military myself, married to old military, I do not understand pacifism.

We were told to watch our ordering....becuase when the war starts....business may fall off for awhile....as people hunker down ....after the intial panic buying...

Here I go again. Some years back (6/8) I read an article in the Readers Digest about this.

Seems a bunch of "that" crowd, took college courses then positioned themselves in ladders that would take them to the top. We are now seeing the fulfillment of those efforts in churches, media, business, schools and government.

I can remember going to church and hear a very good sermon about good and evil. Today I go to church and listen to a milk toast spinning liberal physco babble.

My 2 cents worth.

I grew up during the cold war .......but.....I thought I would never see this country attacked internally.....from outside forces..sometimes it gets to heavy to deal with.

Historical times we live in......they will be making movies of the week about us ....twenty years from now.....:-)

That step will only be taken if they KNOW for sure an attack will happen on a specfic day and in a specfic area. Code Red....even calls for the transportation being TOTALLY shut down.....AIR.....HIGHWAYS...RAILS.......NOTHING WILL MOVE!

I'm a little older than you and DO remember the late 50s and early 60s as a tense time during the Cold War, especially Oct. '62.

But still....as a child, I was somewhat sheltered from the worries.

Different being an adult, and having to think of all the precautions....a family spread out across the country....
